Tanita BodyFat
I wanted to know if those bodyfat scales (i.e. Tanita) were accurate...
I started dieting 2 weeks ago and lost around 7-8 pounds, and when i pinch myself i notice that my bodyfat is decreasing. However, thats not what the bodyfat scale is telling me...its telling me that my bodyfat% is still the same...Furthermore, when i go to the gym, I can lift the same weight that I did when i wasn't on Diet, that means that it seems that i didn't lose much of my muscles since I can still do the same amount of reps and add cardio...
Did anyone try those Tanita bodyfat scales?? I think it's worth crap if you ask me...Any comment would be appreciated...
Thinking of getting a good old caliper

Hey Cybergod, I have one of those scales too. I think they are BS. But I don't really know. I could feel fat as **** and be lower than When I didn't feel that way. I think that something is off in them. I say this because you have to tell the machine wether or not you work out. I don't see how that should matter. I agree with you stick to the calipers...
Yup, I'm bigger than you.

I have a scale that I think performed rather accurately. I can't remember the brand and it's currently still in the box it was packed in when I moved out of my old apartment. Give me a couple of days and I can give it to you. I bought it the last time I was dieting mainly just to keep up with my weight but it seemed to keep up with my diet pretty well too. When I began using it I was at a hefty 19% bf. When I ended the scaled said I was 11% bf. A trip to the doctors office a few weeks later revealed that I was actually just under 11% ( I think it was actually 10.5%). A lot of these scales don't work at all. Most others are very sensitive to the things you eat so it's best to use them early in the morning on an empty stomach.

Thanks guys, i appreciate your replies
I started dieting at 21% bf, 194 pounds. 3 weeks later, I'm 184 pounds and the scale tells me I have the same bodyfat% (21%). However, i don't feel like i lost muscles coz i can still lift like i could during my bulking phase, and i feel thinner... That damn scale cost me 150$ and the stupid fitness store refused to give me back my money!!@#@$!$!@$

It won't give you an accurate number, although the Athletes setting (found on some Tanita models) seems a bit more accurate if you are in fact in pretty decent shape. I always tell people to use it as a way to monitor your progress and not use the number as an exact measure. To use it correctly, you have to use exactly as directed. Check it around the same time of day and not right after you wake up, eat, drink or workout.

Hydration, among other things, will effect the reading. For anyone with any muscle they are way off. As stated above, the "athlete" setting on some models is closer. They are best for noticing trends in your loss.
