You can catch it at anytime. The likelihood of contracting it while not on a flare up is low. Plus she was on valtrex which lowers it even more, but I still couldn't do it.

Took is very seriously, went and talked to my doctor, did my research and everything. Just couldn't do it.

There are only two types and even the "cold sore type" can be transmitted to the genitals srs. It's rare but it happens.
