It's around 55% fructose, and considering that most Americans consume tons of processed, sugary foods rich in high fructose corn syrup, it's no wonder that they're fat! There is only so much fructose your liver can handle before increasing triglyceride synthesis. See: average piece of fruit has around 10g fructose, well below the 50-70g threshold. Average American who eats 3 cups of cereal for breakfast, with 15g of sugar per serving, and using HFCS as the primary sweetener may be getting 21g or so of fructose in that one go. Add in snacks, lunch, dinner, dessert ..you see?

A little HFCS ain't gonna kill ya, my Miracle Whip free that I put on sandwiches has it, but it's very low calorie so it barely makes a dent.
But avoid it like the plague as much as you can. It makes me sick that my whole grain burger buns have HFCS in it, but what can you do?
Bottom line, if you check ingredients and only get HFCS when you absolutely have to, you'll be in good shape.

and a fairly minimal amount of sugar
I also use sprouted grain tortilla shells, sprouted grain products are not made from flourLast edited by mgoose; 08-22-2005 at 05:56 PM.
Many sociologists argue that nothing rots a child's brain like television, but I've found virtually all hydrogen peroxide based gasses to be quite effective.
