    Lifting Weights While Sick, Good or Bad??

    I caught a cold, not a flu, no fever. Just alot of sinus congestion and a sore throat. So is it going to do more harm than healing for me to lift weights?

    I couldnt do it yesterday, it was pretty bad. But I feel a little bit better today. I want to hit the gym hard, I was just wondering if it was in my body's best interest for me to try to get over the cold first...

    Anyone with real knowledge of this would be appreciated.

    if its a minor cold. take a anti-histamine and lift. It shouldn't affect your workouts too much.

    Like above. If a small cold, go for it. The hormones released may help fight the cold. If you are pretty sick I would not workout, it will only may you sickness worse.

    I had a pretty bad cold/flu during the winter that lasted about 3 weeks, and I continued to lift, got over it, but it probably would have only lasted a week if I actually took some time off and rested up.

    Short answer: no IMO. Spreads germs, taxes an already ill body to slow recovery, and you probably aren't going to be doing yourself much good as far as muscle-building.

    Unless you're on steroids, but then again if you're on dat dere celltech you don't even really need to lift in the first place.

    i am in the same situation now. i've been doing cardio instead of lifting. i feel 10x better after sweating a bit. just don't over-work yourself or else you are doing more harm than good.

    Yeah but in the same breath, theres already people sick in the gym, so by me going to better my body while I'm sick, it aint really making much of a difference in whats already there (germ wise).

    Thats probly where I got the cold from in the first place.
