Is there something i'm missing (RE: Seated BB Shoulder Press)

We have a seated BB shoulder press set up in our gym here at UWM. For some reason, i seem to be one of about 2-3 people who perform greater than a 3 inch rom on this thing. Even guys that are much bigger than me will lower the bar a few inches directly above their head and then press it back up. I was under the impression that the proper rom for this exercise is to chin/below (pretty much as low as you can go).

My only conclusion is that some of these people are attempting to perform shoulder raises? Otherwise there are a bunch of idiots in my gym. The funny thing is, I see many of the "3 inch ROM" guys performing other exercises with proper form.

Any ideas?

This is the website i use for demonstration of proper exercise form:

Many have shoulder injuries. There's a risk with elbows going below shoulders, so that's the ROM many people choose.

It also depends on their goals and what they're trying to work. If they're "big" they probably have an idea of what they're doing. (no juice/hgh/igf-1)

A lot of people do fast partials on machines.

It's actually probably the best way to do it on a machine. Better to do it with a barbell and use full ROM, then use the machine for 'finishing' or whatever. Or don't use the machine at all because it sucks

I use full ROM, start with standing for a few sets, then switch to seated to really focus on the delts more.

O/T, what does UWM mean? Uni Wisconsin, Madison?
