Exclamation Creatine for a 15 yr. old

    Hey,
i am 15 years old and i was wondering if it would be okay for me to take creatine? I have gotten mixed answers from everybody saying that it would effect my hormones and development, and saying it was completely fine. so any advice from knowledge or experience would help. Thanks

    Talking

    Hey Krazy Girl

As you're only 15 - NO, NO and more NO! You're still growing! The only thing I'd think you'd need at this stage is a good multivitamin and maybe some cod liver oil.

I know creatine has been used with some success on adults, but I'm not sure what effect it would have on a still-growing body.
    BEFORE: 235 pounds, 39.4% bodyfat.
    CURRENT: 149 pounds, 23.0% bodyfat.
    TARGET: 140 pounds, 18% bodyfat.

It's a long hard road, but well worth the journey. :)

If I'm alive then well will you be there holdin' my hand
I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might.

Thanks HR, love ya hun. ;)

No, I don't think Creatine is necessary for someone your age. I have a 15 yr old son who has been lifting for 6 mos. He's had good success just lifting heavy and eating well. If you really want to supplement try glutamine and amino acids but that's all.

Correct, it's not exactly needed but it still won't hurt and will give you a little edge.

Hormone functions?....creatine has nothing to do with this. Creatine is natural....there is creatine in steak along with other types of foods. Creatine will work for a 15 year old the same way as it would for a 25 year old. Please educate yourself.

Why would you want to take it? It causes your muscles to retain water - what woman wants to retain water? Not to mention, you will dehydrate if you don't take in enough water (since your muscles are retaining water). Finally, it can cause terrible headaches.

Creatine increases the water weight stored in your cells, and most of the "water" weight is intramuscular glycogen and water - meaning it's stored in your muscles and provides a very anabolic state for your body to build muscle. This means that you'll have a better recovery and performance, more strength, etc.

I don't see why people are so worried about retaining a little water, seeing how there are many benefits to creatine. Besides, if you're drinking at least a gallon of water a day (like you should), you shouldn't have a problem with bloat and dehydration. I haven't ever heard about creatine causing terrible headaches. Perhaps you are not drinking your gallon+ of water a day?

As for creatine use, honestly, you don't really need it. Get a good multivitamin, calcium citrate with no maganese and magnesium, and fish oils ( take 6x a day, at least 40% EPA/DHA) and you're good to go. Food and sleep helps a lot too.
I WILL be an 18 year old hottie.

I don't take it, nor would I, however I did a lot of research for a friend who took it and decided it was the cause of his massive headaches. Once he quit, the headaches went away.

Also, I drink well beyond a gal of water a day and I still retain water, unless I'm doing something to sweat it all out, which takes more than an hour of cardio for me.

I think at this person's age, they really should consult a physician or dietician before taking a supplement.

So what do you do if it's an extremely hot day and you are out in the element? You already have to take in extra water to prevent dehydration since the Creatine causes muscles to retain that water. Depending on what you are doing in the element, can you take in enough water (at a rate fast enough) to prevent dehydration from happening?

Taking creatine was the best thing I ever did for my training. I have barely retained any water and experienced no headaches. The benefits far outweigh the negatives because in my case, they were none! Just a ton of increased strength and muscle growth.

But... to the original poster, its definitely not needed at age 15. I trained for 3 years before I used it.
