I asked my Doctor for a perscription of Propecia and I wanted to know if anyone in here is taking it and how it effects muscle gains. I understand it removes testosterone from your system, which seems like it would effect muscle gains. I am 31 and my hair is thinning a bit and I wanted to take some preventive steps to keep what I have. Also enjoy body building and worry about my gains.
Does anyone have experience with traking Propecia while working out?

I just wanted to throw in my two cents too. After my first M1T cycle, I lost some hair for the first time in my life. It's been a year now and I've been taking finasteride (the generic of Propecia) for about nine months. Although all my hair didn't grow back, a noticeable amount of it did, and I never notice hairs coming out in the shower (when I shampoo/condition) or on my pillow case. It hasn't affected my training gains either. Only positive things to say about it. The sooner you get it, the better.
- Get about 1.5 g of protein/lb of lean body weight/day
- Take at least 40-50 g of whey protein immediately post-workout
- Take 5 g of creatine monohydrate pre/post-workout
- Take a daily multivitamin
- Get at least 8 hours of quality sleep
- Take 2 or 3 days/week off. Rest allows growth.

I avoided it after reading some negative feedback on proscar though and went with dr lee's xandrox 15%, spironolactone 5%, minoxidil and regrowth shampoo stack. Very pleased with the reluts, after trying everything under the sun hair loss has stopped and is even growing back even while on cycle.

I've been pondering whether to get on it or not (thinning a bit, runs in the family, thank god I happen to look good even with it buzzed short, so I'm not too worried). I'm terrified about the libido and gyno issues that it causes in some though. Hmmm

If you're thinking about using this stuff, research the side effects first.....
Here's a good one:

From a bodybuilding standpoint finasteride really shouldn't affect your gains all that much if at all. A drop in libido seems to be the main side effect associated with finasteride use. 1 mg is the standard dose, but some people may get away with using only .5 mg per day. From what I've read finasteride seems to be effective at halting further hair loss, but it is fairly poor at restoring lost hair (of course this depends on how quickly you address the issue). For hair regrowth you might be better off with topical spiro (5%), minoxidil, and nizoral (2%, although I've heard 1% may work just as well).

When you hear about bodybuilders doing cycles to get ready for contests they always include a heavy androgenic drug to "harden up," These "hardening up" drugs are almost always dht derivitives. IMO it has a lot to do with bodybuilding. Although I have never used steroids or propecia, so I cannot tell from first hand experience.

It may also play a role in strength and CNS recovery, but most finasteride users on this board don't appear to have a problem in this regard. The only thing I wouldn't really trust it for is any considerable hair regrowth because studies have shown that very few experience regrowth from using finasteride alone.
I also think that finasteride has its place in test cycles for those extremely worried about hair loss because there will still be ample DHT due to increased test levels, and estrogen problems can always be countered by using an AI.

(2) it's unkown what if any effects it has on muscle mass. There are reasons to think it may actually help(slight increase in T) and reasons to think it will hurt gains, due to decrease in DHT
