I read that doing squats as a teenager could stunt your growth as they compress your spine slightly.
Is this a serious risk?

the last two posts said it all. Dont be afraid by rumours from skinny tall people who are jellous cos they have no muscle whatsoever. most of them i could snap in half over my knee.
if you are meant to be 5'0 or 5'8 or 6 foot tall that is the height you will be it genetics" You say you gave it your all??? but did you did you really??? Now go out there and sweat Blood "

And there's no point in hanging on a bar or any of that other weird sh*t to decompress the spine?
Pavel Tsatsuoline recommends it - good enough for me!
I usually hang from a bar after deadlifts and squats - the least it can do is improve my grip!"my grocery bill looks like a ransom note"
