aside from the vitamin C you get from your multi-vitamin, what is a normal additional dose people supplement with?
Thanks

What are you using the Vitamin C for? I have read that people take between 500mg-several grams of additional vitamin C for supposed immune-boosting effects. Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin so if you take it in excess, you will lose whatever your body doesn't hold onto in the urine. If you want to take extra vitamin C, I would say start with about 500mg a day. Make sure you are taking in plenty of water/hydration. The most common side effect with excess vitamin C is stomach problems: diarrhea, etc etc....
IMO, multivitamins contain what you need. You might eat more vitamin-c containing foods such as citrus fruits and some vegetables....

from healthmd:
For the treatment of various diseases: Depending on the ailment, 1,000 to 6,000 mg may be appropriate.
Because vitamin C is water-soluble—what the body cannot use, it eliminates in the urine and feces in about 12 hours—it's hard to get too much. But while many people are able to tolerate high doses of vitamin C (as much as 6,000 mg a day) with no ill effects, others may suffer from mouth ulcers, diarrhea, gas, and bloating at doses above 2,000 mg; these problems subside when the dose is reduced.
Special tip: Consider taking vitamin C as part of an antioxidant formula. It works best in concert with other antioxidants, especially vitamin E and flavonoids. The flavonoids, sometimes labeled as bioflavonoids, also enhance the effectiveness of vitamin C.2004 NCAA Men's Soccer Final 4
