Although you probably should allow yourself some yummy treats on the holidays if you wanted to you CAN just slightly alter lots of recipes to make them healthier.
eg:
- Pumpkin pie with an oatmeal /egg crust and made with low fat cream cheese (or evaporated FF milk), pumpkin and sweetened with a little honey.
- Warm spiced apple pie (granny smith apples + spices + a tiny bit of xanthum gum to thicken) with an oatmeal and walnut crust. Serve with natural vanilla yoghurt (for the health nuts) or some low-fat custard or low fat vanilla ice-cream.
- Spiced molasses cookies (make your own) and use fruit puree, oats, etc.
- Stewed fruit (rhubarb, apples, pears) with vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and served with some sweetened creamed cottage cheese (cream it yourself with a little honey) or some vanilla yoghurt
- Fresh fruit platter with fat-free yoghurt and creamed cottage cheese
- Low fat gingerbread (whole wheat flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, cloves, ff buttermilk, molasses, eggs/whites... some smooshed stewed prunes to add moisture)
