    signs of increased metabolism

what are some signs and when do you know if your metabolism is higher or lower than what it used to be before you lost your weight?

I dunno about increased resting heart beat. The more cardiovascular fitness you have, the less effort your heart needs to use with each pump, and the less pumps it has to make per minute... more fitness = lower resting heart rate. Lance Armstrong's is in the low 30's, I believe.

I would say the best evidence of an increased metabolism is being able to increase your calories and without gaining weight.

    You're hungry.

Whilst cutting, I decided I might not be eating enough even though I wasn't hungry after or between meals. I increased my calories by only 300/day and all of a sudden I was starving in between meals. Fat loss sped up too.

I have heard of this as well, dont no how true it is but if you eat more your body will increase its metabolism in order to burn the extra food consumed. Same thing happens when you eat less, your body will slow down its metabolism to adapt to the new setting.

The question is if "and i will use his example", if you eat 300 more cals a day will your increased metabolism burn this 300 plus more? or will it burn an extra 100 and you will store the other 200?

I dunno, everyone is different though.

if you eat 5-6 smaller meals instead of 3 large meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner), your metabolism is almost always working. It keeps your metabolic rate high, and you can burn fat easier. If you stop eating, your body goes into crisis mode and slows down your metabolic rate, and devours your muscle (and a bit of fat) for energy. So EAT, you can't starve yourself, you'll be the "skinny fat guy" if you do!

High metabolism is pretty much a high respiration rate (especially in response to exercise) where a lot of C02 is being expelled.

If you aren't making ATP and exchanging O2 with CO2 at a good rate your metabolism is low.

Being dehydrated lowers metabolism because the mechanism that allows your body to retain sodium also causes it to slow respiration and retain C02 (impairs diffusion through the aveoli).

So slowed breathing = slower metabolism. How do we raise metabolism?

Keeping hydrated and replacing sodium losses in a sensible fashion will prevent the slow down and keep it normal. Whenever you happen by chance to eat a salty meal the best thing to do is drink a good amount of water so it has a chance of being absorbed as a isotonic solution (rather than a hypertonic solution which pulls Potassium and other things out of cells)

Most people eat too much salt so worrying about salt replacement usually isn't an issue.

You can't burn fat when dehydrated either.

Ive noticed that wen i started to increase my metabolism, Id breathe faster, have more energy to want to get up and just move around, as well as being hotter than anyone fat person around me. I used to be cold as a fat guy, but now im always hot and sweaty, i guess thats a sign. Fats allways burning!

I'm the hot fat guy. Like I'm always hot. I just quit drinking alcohol and drink hot water with lemon and tea constantly and the past few days my hunger levels have skyrocketed. I used to be able to eat once a day and be fine but lately I'm bear-blood hungry every 2 hrs or so, even at night. It wakes me up in the middle of the night now. I'm taking this all as a sign my once completely ****ed metabolism is repairing itself and kicking **** up a notch.

It may also be a sign of brain damage as you are replying to a thread that has been dead for 11 and a half years.

This horrendous thread has it all; brotastic advices, "information" totally contrary to the laws of human physiology, a touch of "I'm a unique snowflake, different from all the rest," and of course, an 11-year bump.
    No brain, no gain.

"The fitness and nutrition world is a breeding ground for obsessive-compulsive behavior. The irony is that many of the things people worry about have no impact on results either way, and therefore aren't worth an ounce of concern."--Alan Aragon
