Fast Food

So whats your take on fast food while body building, tryin to build muscle. A McChicken sandwhich has like 24 grams of protein but probably alot of fat. Does it balance out? Will those junky proteins help you? Will fast food give you negative results when trying to gain muscle. Thanks

I went through 4 years of college eating fast food and lifting.

I just graduated in may, and since i have gotten of fast food im doing 10x better.

The protein is great in fast food, but the fat is what gets you. (Not to mention the white bread buns are terrible for you)

Im trying to avoid it now and doing much better.

you can usually cut the fat by gettin rid of mayo on those chicken sandiches, for example at Wendys a grilled chicken sandwich with no mayo has 44 grams of carbs, 30 grams of protien and only 7 grams of fat. Not bad. I used to eat a lot of ''clean'' fast food but have totally cut out fast food from my diet. It helps me feel better eating REAL food. If i have to eat fastfood for whatever reason, i usually opt for Wendys. WIth that grilled chicken sandwich without mayo and a baked potatoe for a side, you can somehwat eat healthy. Basically im sur eno one would recommend eating fast food as a main staple in your diet, but here and there dosnt hurt.

So im reading bout all these guys eating chicken and turkey and all these healty foods. I mean where do they eat this stuff? Its not like they cook themselves. Or is it their mom cooking for them, but thats gotta be a lotta cooking for almost 200 grams of protein. Is it frozen foods? Are frozen foods bad for you. Cuz lots of them are chicken and high in protein.

frozen foods contain A LOT of sodium (anything frozen usually does) Me, im 20 a college student, for lunch I usually make turkey sandwiches at home, breakfast i eat egg whites and milk (i also eat lots of carbs but im just listing proten sources) and for dinner i eat chiecken breasts, i grill them, once you learn to grill, its not that hard, ill make them for the entire week. Cook up some brown rice on the side with some corn. I drink 3-4 glasses of milk a day. And the rest I supplemt with whey...get the picture? Oh yea for a good snack on the go, cant go wrong with tuna! The typical Bodybuilding foods dont require you to be a chef or spend tons of time in the kitchen preparing them.

all foods have it and lots of peopel will argue that you can flush out excess sodium by drinkin good amounts of water. I mean excess sodium wont kill you, its just an unhealthy factor of frozen/processed foods. Try buying several chicken breasts and grill them, pack em up in tupperware and throw them in the fridge and you basically have a good protien source for your week.

for sure just gotta be smart about it, i usually never watched what i ate (ive always been skinny) so when i switched into working out, i still consumed fast food but in a smart way...its not easy from going from easting watever you a stricter diet. You learn and adapt along the way.

Retain water? Like creatine does? So sodium can make you gain water weight? And another thing, does soy protein build muscle? IF not, what does it do.

What it really comes down to is:

How serious do you take bodybuilding?

I don't take it very seriously. I don't count calories. I do eat very healthy foods. I get lots of protein in, my gains are good, and even though they could be great I don't really care. I'm an ectomorph, so I'm not going to put on much fat anyway, and I'm much less likely to binge. I sometimes help myself to fast food 2-3 times a week.

But...If you really want your gains to be as good as possible, you should stop.

Yes, they both make you retain water... I wouldn't recommend soy. Here is what it does, I posted this information earlier.

Soy Protein Isolate: This vegetarian protein source has been shown to enhance thyroid hormone output, which can increase metobolic rate to support fat loss. The isolavones in soy have numerous health benefits, including lowering cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It contains an excellent ration of glutamine, arginine, and BCAAs. Soybeans, tofu, soymilk, and other forms of soy contain some soy protein concentrate, which is not the same thing as soy protein isolate. Soy foods can actually be estrogenic in men and cause water retention and bloating.

So for those of you who grill your chicken...originally at the store the chicken is usually frozen right, there not gonna have it on the shelves. So does the freezing process add sodium to the foods, or is sodium added to preserve the foods or somethin. And what exactly do most of you do to get some healthy chicken or protein. Thanks for the help.

Cause it's not funny at all.

You should stay away from fast food all the time just to be healthy.

I try not too have any fast food. But if I must, I stay away from fries and usually get the grilled chicken with no mayo... or there regular hamburgers with just the basics.. no cheese, no mayo. Subway is always a good alternative too.

fast food is a NO NO. i don't care if you bodybuild or BMX or work at walmart. you shouldn't eat fast food. too many chemicals, preservatives, sodium, sugar, FAT, etc. you will get AT LEAST 3 of those even if you cut out mayo and all that extra crappy stuff.

also, sodium MAY raise blood pressure in some people. i enjoy keeping my sodium as low as possible. period.

besides, no fast food tastes good except for Quiznos and Schlotzky's! which i DO eat about once a month, but i know where they get their bread from, i know that the veggies are fresh and their meat is really the only thing, but it's only about 50% worse on sodium as the bagged chicken etc. i get at sam's.

And one more, why are frozen foods abundant in sodium anyway?

FAST FOOD IS NOTHING but S - H - I - T . What kind of bodybuilder would even ask that question. You have to be kidding me. I wonder if you are the supersize me guy? How smart would you have to be, to go pay 6-7 bucks for a bag of **** for one meal. When you can take that cash and buy almost a days worth of food. Now i realize bodybuilding.com forum is for helping people but my god, this **** is so common senese its ridiculous.

Why do people even come to this website if they are not SERIOUS about bodybuilding?

Why in god's name would you eat fast food if you want to bodybuild?

Also, in response to the comment about "cooking"...YES, most bodybuilders cook their OWN food the day (or WEEK) before and carry it around with them.

I know that people come here for help and advice and stuff, but MY GOD...why would you even THINK that fast food would be ok for bodybuilding?

There is a difference between BODYBUILDING and "moderate exercise".
