Getting My Ass in Gear

Hi everyone! I had a journal here, about a year and a half ago.

But now I think I need motivation again-- I am steadily losing control of my lifestyle I wish to live.
I'm really more of a runner than a BBer, but I do weights a few times a week, and I don't run a huge amount. I just want to be fit, and I love to run (when I can).
But here's the deal:
I've been losing willpower and motivation, lately. I'm not sure if it's because I've been sick, or what, but it shouldn't matter because I wasn't very sick. It was a cold.

I blame part of it on the fact that I recently went on the pill, so the hormones ****ed with my system-- I didnt have hormones before, for some reason-- we're not sure why, but anyway I went on them to get a period.

I should be getting in any day now. ANYWAY, I am bingeing and lazing and basically grossing myself out-- this isnt who I am! I thought that maybe if I started a journal I might get a little motivation back. I need to recognoze myself again, and be happy.

thanks for any input or thoughts or even criticism! GET ME OFF MY ASS! lol.

Oh, some info about me:
I just turned 18 ( ), and I'm a senior in HS. (long story about that, coming up, btw)
ummmm... anything else you want to know, ask!

I'm looking forward to tomorrow (no school, woo hoo!) - I have somehwere to go, I should be ok. And it's a whole new day!
you know what sucks? the aftermath of an eating disorder is often just ****ed up eating. I dont want this to be my whole life. I want to DO things.
I need to get out of this town, its driving me crazy. (full of snobby, cold, rich, ignorant, people.... I dont blame them though, I think it's mostly me.)

Wish me luck waking up in time to go for a run in time to go to work!
(I need to leave on my run by...ew, 7:30. I have work at 9:30. maybe Ill just go later? NO, go first thing, julia! )
Its going to be fricking cold, though. poo. I miss summer.

But I'll get paid! Yay! All I do is babysit, not for lack of trying to get a p/t job.

I did it! I have to leave, uh, NOW, but I got my day off to a good start.

It's looking good-- oatmeal and cc and pb for breakfast, and my other meals are (semi) planned.

It is WINTER ICE WEATHER out, though. Evil.

Alright, ttfn, have fabulous days everyone!

Today was good too--

I think I figured out something that should have been obvious (but I wasn't thinking about it, so it wasn't).
I havent been eating nearly enough protein, because I havent been focusing on my diet as much...I'm positive it is why I've been so tired lately.
Ive been eating more, plus a better bfast, and I feel a bajillion times better!

Have I mentioned I love pumpkin? I can eat an entire large can of it at once. I feel a bit too full after, but dayum, its delicious.
Just add a lot of vanilla, pumpkin pie spice, extra cinnamon, and sweetener, and then heat and eat.

I need more to think about. I get bored during my workouts and then I stop every 3 minutes, not really because I'm tired, but for one, the big red STOP button is staring at me, and two, all I am thinking about is the workout and how much more I have to do. Willpower alone is not enough, Ive found.
however, I'm excited about the fact that my mom and i (my ride since my car "went away" on friday ) have decided that sometime, probably this week (after I entirely get over this lingering cold), we're going to see if getting up uber early and going to the gym before school works! WE think it will. Waking at 5, leaving right away, before I have time to sit and get groggy.... i'm excited.

So I should go clean my room.... a little.... who are we kidding, I'm just going to lurk on here some more. lol!

have a great night, guys!

welcome!!!

this is the world for recovery from ED.

From a former runner (me) to a current runner (you), HI!!!!

The gals on here will totally help you "get your ass in gear"-- sometimes with some tough lovin', but ultimately it's for your own good.

F*cked up metabolisms are scary. Trust me, I know from 10 years with anorexia. Gaining is scary. But we just have to be brave and get it over with; if we can get through the gain, we'll get the fast metabolisms we want, and our bodies will take on a great, healthy shape!! Far better than anything we could run ourselves into.

Anyway, so check out these gals journals. They're great. And let me know if you ever want to vent re. the running thing; I feel like I'm singlehandedly fighting the image of "what should a runner look like" and trying to help HS gals around here understand that what they are seeing is not healthy and not something to strive for. As long as it's running, as far as I"m concerned, it's a runner. And it looks liek one.

Do you know who Alberto Salazar is? He's the coach at Oregon. He's got a great story re. running and weights, etc. Check him out.

ok, so staying out from 7 am to 6 pm helps with not bingeing. but I'm pretty sure you guys are all going to say that I should eat more often. Which I should. But it's a little difficult when you have class and then no car. (I had an accident a week ago today.) I hate depending on other people/the school bus to get places.

I miss my car. She was name Xena and my sister and I painted her on teh inside and made it all pretty....
she was a junker/lemon, but I loverd her/having a car. I get attached to things easily, lol.

so.... what can I say that isnt complaing? Seriously, I've been so negative lately-- it just comes out. I dont know why I do it.

I got my period this week for the first time in years (loooooooooong story), so that was good. I like feeling "normal". (im on the pill though, so it's not natural).

so cals today: about 1700ish. I dont caount anyting else-- if I'm not bbing, do you think it's necessary? I try to get 25% or so of my cals from veggies/fruits, but I dont freak out if I dont make it, or if I go over.

exercise: 25 min cardio, 15 ish min light weights (I know, bad, but I'm slowly getting back into it. when I do too much too fast, I am in a lot of achy pain for days after). I streched too! Yay me!

I've been having pian in hy hip joints-- not sure why. Its annoying though, I cant walk without it twinging. I feel like an old lady. poo. Not sure what to do about it, as I feel like I should be able to walk. Stretching helps it.

Yoga tomorrow morning! And before that, yard sales with my sis and walking around. fun. Maybe I can find some sweat pants. Can you believe I dont have any?
After yoga, I'm hoping lunch out at this great place called gourmet heaven, you pick out your own food from a buffet thing and it's also a grocery store. they have a lot of cool weird stuff.

then gym, and home. Oh yay, tomorrow's going to be a good day.

so thanks for being patient with my life rambling, lol!

Have a fabulous weekend, everybody!

thanks so much lionchick! erm, im not a "runner" per se.. well I do run, so I guess I am, but I'm not great at it. lol. I love it though!
I will check ouit the journals-- there are so many though!
thanks for the tip about A. Salazar-- sounds like some nice info.

yeah about the EDs.. too much experience on that here thanI would like...
I had anorexia too! yay we can have a club. :/ lol.
I found this place a few years ago, and it literally changed my life- it helped me to get better form my first ED. now I have the rest of my issues to work out. hmm...
I like to think I have gotten my metabolism "normalish" now, but who knows? I've never had one of those fancy shmancy test things or bf test, or whatever. not necessary, i know, but it would be interesting.

anyhoo, thanks abunch, Ill stop in on your journal and say hi!

so... no gym today. My back hurts from my car accident a week ago ( i think I got whiplash) and I think Im STILL sick, and Im jsut being lazy and its cold. All that added up, plus the fact that no one else wanted to go (i.e. my ride), kindof made up my mind for me.
Hopefully tomorrow morning we actually will go, esp. because I have to work.
Yay, money!

I made the most delicious thing today.... its all cold and windy today, and we went to yoga and when I came back I was really hungry and I wanted soup.
I get this big huge can of crushed tomatoes (chunky style) and I add spices to it-- even though it already had basil in it-- and have that as tomato soup. Better than any tomato soup that is actually "soup", I swear.
Cumin, pepper, salt, caraway seeds, dill, garlic, onion. heat n eat. mmm. And then, I chopped up a veggie burger and put that in there too! SO GOOD. I was proud of myself for getting some protein, as well.

I am too sensitive to caffeine-- I had a few cups of jasmine/earl/green tea this morning, with steamed soymilk and equal (awesome, by the way, though the jasmine was one cup, the earl green another), and I got that sortof echoey heartbeat you get when you have too much coffee. I NEVER drink caffeinated coffee anymore, if any coffe at all. Why am I so sensitive to caffeine, when I didnt use to be? I have no clue.

IKEA is frustrating. THE THINGY WILL NOT GO INTO THE OTHER THINGY.
arg. i think its our tools, actually, we dont have one the right size, but still. poo.

No, ive actually had a pretty good day so far, im not complaining really.

I hope everyone is having a good day too.

I am not having kids. For the forseeable future, anyway.
I think I will, someday, but I dont feel like it now, which is a good thing, but wahtever.

SO WHINY. and they dont even know why they are in a bad mood. Sounds like me, except im not 2 and I can control myself.

I actually love these kids. I was just over there for about 7.5 hours today and it got a little old.

We went to the gym in the AM, (8 o'clock!) which is early for us, but our gym closes at 3 on sundays (ew, i know) and 5 on saturdays. so thats the only time we could go, which was great, because I love working out in the morning.
It wasnt a good w/o though, because I'm a wuss and i have nothing to think about. I had a good day though. I GOT MOOLAH. YES. I was paid for last week and this week, (i work 1x a week because they ahve a person ont he weekdays and I dont have another job, though i'm trying to get one )
95 bucks! yay.

Can I just say again that I miss my car?

Have a good night everyone-- Monday tomorrow! *sigh*

i know exactly what you mean about IKEA!! I get so frusterated because that damn little stick man can get his thingy attached ot the other thingy and he can figure out which thingy to use to do it, and meanwhile I'm like "uhm. So which part of this is actually the front" and then you assemble the whole thing, only to find out you put 1 part in backwards, and you have to take it apart and do it again!!

I am sorry you don't have a car... that is not fun, especially living somewhere a bit chilly!!

I've got a truck, so I don't drive much because it costs too much to drive! This has often resulted in me doing stuff like walking a few miles from the gym to the store and back in order to save on gas-- it's sort of a cheap way to get in a bit of a cool down, too, which I always seem to need after doing weights! My trainer/nutritionist LOVES deadlifts. I feel like I do like 50 deadlifts EVERY TIME I go to the gym. My ass is rapidly progressing towards J.Lo-ness.... which is cool with me, but unfortunately I don't do enough bench to "balance" the top and the bottom

Eh, oh well....

That is cool that you do yoga-- just like you may need a bit of motivation to do more weights, I totally need motivation to do more yoga. It's so good for your muscles and you get that lovely stretch and it's so peaceful yet hard!

Glad to see that you are working on including more protein... Have you tried any of the BCAA sups yet? The guy who owns our supplement store here (Supplement Depot) let me try this recovery stuff called Xtend; it's got like 20-40 kcals a pop (depending on how much powder you put in) and it's got all the essential aminos. YOu can either chug it during/post workout (it's liek gatorade) or just sip on it throughout the day, and it provides you with all the aminos you need. I really like it because I get a lot of my protein from soy, and since soy is not a complete protein, when I have soy with Xtend I get more benefits from it, apparently. Also, it just tastes good. It's even sweet-- a better alternative to diet cola, maybe?

Well, have a nice morning. It's like 60 here right now and I'm sweating like madness. Send me some winter chill!

Haha, yeah, the stick figure guy! I had to make my dresser thing about, oh, four or five times beacuse I kept putting things in the wrong way...
and now the screws WONT GO IN. so its (pant rack thing) half attached, hanging off the side of the dresser because I'm mad at it and ignoring it's existence.
/rant
I love deadlifts-- but I'm never sure if im doing them right. What part of your butt is supposed to hurt with them? hehe. I need to so more, I have a little white girl butt.

no, I havent tried BCAAs or anything-- the closest thing I'm probably going to get to supps is protein powder, because we're poor and my family would think it's wierd, plus Im not sure I need them. If you can convince me otherwise, Ill try to get them!

Here, take all the cold you want! *shoves cold air and wind Lionchick's way* Take it! Take it!

Man, speaking of diet soda, I have completely stopped drinking "real" water now. I used to be so good! Now I get these yummy artificially sweetened flavored seltzers, which I feel like aren't "cleansing" my body like water would.

Haha, you can tell i'm in chem this year-- everytime i think of the word water, I'm like "H20! what is it combining with? reaction type? ahhh!" lol.

Oh, my god. I just started this new thing of getting up at bitch o-clock in the morning (read: 4:50am) and going to the gym before school. I. LOVE. IT.
It gives me so much more time in the day, after! I am in a much better mood all day (though I didnt have a better day, I loved the world more ), and plus, I dont have to take the bus! Lol! I'm lucky my mom likes it too.
However, two things:
- I SUCK at not stopping every 2 minutes, literally. Why cant I keep going? because I'm a wuss. I run so much better outside, but its toooooo cold and like I said, I'm a wuss.
- I was much hungrier for my lunch, and hungry earlier, too, which for some reason I hadn't anicipated. So bigger lunches from now on!

Have a great night people-- thanks for checking in Lionchick!
One more day before vaca! (for the US, anyway).

HOKAY, so.
I'm going to post my (planned) meals for tomorrow, just because I feel like it.

Bfast: Banana, Yogurt, Bran crackers (~230 cals), maybe a hot chocolate (2 T Cocoa Powder, equal, vanilla, some other extract to make it yummier).

Lunch/Brunch thing: ~2 cups veggies with mustard dip, 1/4 c hummus, pita chips, salsa and ff cream cheese dip, cottage cheese, crackers, orange (~510 cals)

and that all I really ever stick to when I plan (breakfast and lunch thing) cuz when I get home I'm more like "I dont WANT veggies, I want tofu pudding or something sweet..." lol.

However, my PLAN is an acorn squash ("baked" in the microwave w/cinnamon, vanilla, equal- yum! maybe I will have that). ~200 cals
hot chocolates (of course, I'm addicted) ~100 cals
meringue, maybe? chocolate and rum extract and vanilla ~90 cals
aaand.... I probably wont have all those, I have no clue, but ---ooh! wait! Maybe Ill have pumpkin.

how about I shut up now?
I am way too food obsessed. Comes with ED recovery, I guess. Will this continue my whole life? I'm curious.

g'night!

I LOVE WORKING OUT IN THE MORNING. LOVE LOVE LOVE.

I am in SUCH a better mood, all day! I have more patience and......oh. I already wrote this. LOL! I just had a better w/o today.
And I'm so excited to have this be a way of life for me now.

I need to do more squats/deadlifts-- my butt is so sad and white-girl-y! haha.

I love the space I am in now, physically and (not as much) mentally. I like myself better when I'm pushing myself, and not being such a lazy ass (which I really still need to work on, incidentally.). I feel strong and lean and a few weeks ago I was getting all soft and my habits were to let myself not workout if I was tired from doing nothing all day. AM workouts fix that ( )
and I'm working on the will power thing. Especially on the treadmill. (fricking big red STOP button)

I ahev to go to my dad's till sunday, and I dont really want to. He's buying me a computer though (a huge splurge, but I need one for college, and it's his present to me for my bday). SO.....I guess I'll go. lol.

I'm going to go have some (more) hot chocolate.

agghhh I hate days off from school-- can you say, "uncontrollable eating"?
I'm going to the gym soon, but its almost noon already, and I have eaten SO MUCH. And it's not even Thanksgiving, or fun stuff. Its the boring little snacky things that add up....
and on top of that, my sis and I are not getting along (we are usually very close) and I dont want to go to my dad's house today. It's depressing there and I like the same-ness of here (which is probably not a healthy mindset, argh again).

And I was realllly sleepy for some reason a half hour ago (I had some coffee, but I'm worried it will just make me jittery and sweaty at the gym). I actually fell half-asleep on the couch. I selpt about 8.5 to 9 hours last night though... weird.

So, today's not such a good day so far. I hate being in the car (it's about a 3 or more hour drive). and I need to finish packing.

I have hope for the rest of the week...I have a guest pass for the gym up there but I miss running outside. Maybe I'll get up the gumption ( )
to go outside in the frozen (not really, its just cold)-ness.
Maybe it'll be fun...? I dont like thanksgiving. It's all about one meal, and I dont really...eat MEALS, per se, which is a problem at the moment...I just eat MY stuff.

Man, I am negative aren't I?
Something positive.... No school! yay. I might be getting a computer?
I get to get out of this god-forsaken town (to another god-forsaken town, lol).

SO, I'm not THAT bad, I just dont know what I want at the moment.

Ill hang in there. HAve a fabulous Thanksgiving/rest of the week, guys.

I'm back. I binged for about 3 days straight (it could have been worse though), ate too much just now when I got in the house.
Probably nothing at the gym tomorrow (no ride, very cold outside) unless I overcome my wussdom.

Hoping next week is better....

how are you all? i hope you all had a nice TG/equivalent past few days.

Ill check in tomorrow when i'm not really tired. goodnight everyone.

Cold is in the 30s, low 40s. Too cold. lol! I know, I'm a wuss.

ANYhoo, I got my laptop today!!!!!!!!! SUPER excitement there.

Exercise has been OK, I still wish I didn't stop every 3 minutes. stupid big red stop button.

Today: (not positive, since I stop SO ****ING MUCH, but): ~28 minutes running, a few light weights (I dont have time to do more, I have to be at school at 7:15, and my mom wont get up earlier. I dont blame her, 5:30 is early enough. I get up at 5 though. )
I still love working out in the early AM. no time to get groggy, I dont always feel like it but boy do I feel amazing after, and then all day. Yay for energy!

eating....not so much ok. I have issues with being hungry, apparently. Not even that I am or will be, but the fear of it-- I dont know. I think maybe ill overeat if I am? So I OVERfill up on low cal stuff. geesh. I'm a mess.
Still trying for about 1700 a day. Not sure about how much macros I should get (sonce Im not really a bodybuilder). I am trying to build up my butt, though. squats and deadlifts.
I miss my car! (ok, ok, I swear its the last time I whine about that. lol, sorry).

take care everyone!

New laptop .... nice!! I need to get one after Christmas is over - the one I have right now is ridiculous and slow!

I know what you mean about worrying you'll overeat if you get hungry - but what does your diet look like? Filling up on low-cal stuff like veggies, etc,. could be ok. In regards to macros, I found that a 40P/40C/20F worked well for me. Do you track your food at all? I like nutridiary.com.

That's great you love working out in the mornings so much!! I wish I could get myself out of bed for that - I always end up going in the evenings because I'm too tired to get up!

Keep up the good work

Good to see you keeping up those cals! You might need to raise them even more if you want to build...you're so tiny!!

I have that same fear of being hungry a lot, esp when I know that I won't have access to food, so I overeat...it's weird!

hey people!

Yesterday was my rest day, with some yoga. I needed that, but now my shoulders are a bit sore... I havent been to yoga in a while....

Gym soon, at 8 or so, work at 10. I'll let you know how THAT goes.

eating-- I am trying to eat actual meals now! I even made a "recipe" notebook, so I dont just snack, I'll have ideas. If anyone has any, feel free to share!
We went to Trader Joe's yesterday, and I got so much good stuff! I got muffins (which I felt kinda sorta guilty about because my sister loves to bake), which are super-healthy bran berry-mango muffins and I had one for breakfast today with some hot chocolate and yogurt.

Hopefully the rest of today goes well, eating-wise.

I do track my food, but in a notebook. I think I need to get a bit more fats in my diet, though, even without counting the amount.

I need bras so badly.. mine are SO OLD. does anyone know of a good shop that sells good bras for tiny boobs? lol.

I NEED to clean my room/do laundry. It is so gross in there...

Yeah, I love my Mac (love), but I can't get on the internet, which bugs me. My dad says I should use an ethernet cable t connect to the PC we have, but it seems silly to connect my PORTABLE laptop to the DESKTOP PC to go online, when I could just go online on the pc. le sigh.

I gotta go workout now--

have a great Sunday and beginning of December, everyone! did you say "rabbit rabbit"?

Oh man.... I'm never having kids. i swear. it's not hteir fault, but I just dont have the patience! 2 year olds are annoying, becuase they test EVERY limit. And they dont like me like they like their mom, obviously, so thats hard. Its a darn good thing theyre cute.
Buuuuut, I made a *little* money. 56 bucks, should help a little. So that's a good thing.

I made cookies over there! It was fun, and I only had...a few...lol. And I made them a little healthier. I cant bring myself to put 2 sticks of butter into a batch of cookies. So I subbed applesauce, and cut the sugar, which made the texture odd, but they were still yummy! My favorite variation was chocolate chip oatmeal (all of them were, a few diff variations though) and little pieces of candied ginger and cinnamon.

The gym was good today! I stopped a lot, of course, but it wasn't as compelling as usual. lol. and I added weight to my squats (15 lbs each hand to 20 each hand) and I can feel it!

It snowed today, but not enough for no school tomorrow, OF course.

I'm off to have my frozen concoction of CC, PB, cinnamon, vanilla, and of course sweetener. Im exited, I havent had it in a long time!

Have a great night everyone!

Twinnet:
I am a veggie, except for tuna. uhm..... just throw it at me, I'll find something to do with whatever! I dont have "dont likes" ready to go in my head, and I'm pretty sure you make relatively healthy things, so if you want, give me a few of your favorite, but only if you WANT to, of course.

I actually did homework, too.

Workout: Ok. not great. I was super sleepy this morning, and I'm pretty sure I'm getting sick (sore throat, wierd digestion, cold from inside out), so whatever.
My butt is sore though!

Not much to post today... I'm never really sure what I'm expected to say, or what I should say....lol. Any tips?

Have a great (WARM) evening!

1. take twinnett up on her offer of recipes-- i'm always impressed by her concotions... she combines things in creative ways!

2. give me your cold weather. now.

3. healthy fats rock. peanut butter is such a good start-- do you like almonds or cashews or walnuts? there are butters of these things, too! i can't eat those, but i can have sesame seeds and sunflower seeds, and the butter from those is very tasty, as well. it's got more of a "bite" to it, though-- it's less sweet (hooray!)

4. what do people in connecticut do when it is very cold and they want to run outside? do you get to wear one of those "baclava" face masks (is that what they're called?) if so-- that's so cool!

5. yay for added weights to the squats!!!!!

Hi! Wandering around and saw a journal without a bazillion pages so I thought I'd stop by. Couple thoughts...

I've been on the pill for 24 years so I guess I've basically never had a "real" period by your reckoning. Before that, my cycles were all messed up. It wasn't unusual to only have a couple periods a year. Now I have the opposite problem with what I call "unscheduled" periods so it's not usual to be bleeding for two freakin weeks. Anyway, don't be down on yourself for artificially balancing your hormones - it's not uncommon.

As far as your eating, since you are running and doing a small amount of resistance training, your diet needs to be about 15-20% protein, 60-70% carbs, and 20-30% fat. I know this isn't the typical bodybuilder macros that everyone around here thinks they need but a lot of the people trying to meet those macros need to be eating more carbs anyway. (I'm kind of in a mood about this right now - sorry.)

Also, if eating 3 meals a day or whatever works for you, don't fight it. A lot of people do that and maintain their weight just fine. (Here comes some more of my mood - sorry.) For some reason on this forum there is a lot of pressure for everyone to eat the same macros and the same number of meals and even basically the same foods. I know a lot of people who aren't doing that and are embarrased to let anyone else on the forum know that they have found success doing something different. Ultimately, there isn't a right or wrong way - just what works for you.

You can keep writing it down without tracking macros, just make sure that half your meal is veges/fruit, a quarter of it a starchy carb, and a quarter protein. And a little bit of good fat every day. Make sure you get 3 servings of dairy every day. Since you're somewhat of a vegetarian, do you know how to do food combining so that you're getting complete amino acids? I can give you some info on that if you need it. Also make sure you're taking a multi. I'm also concerned that you might need extra iron.

Don't rely on will-power. It will fail you every time. Develop healthy eating habits and figure out why you binge so that you can start experimenting with strategies to short-circuit them. Keeping a food journal is one strategy - espcially if you post it in your journal!

Sorry I'm so grumpy. I really am a nice, supportive person most of the time. Keep up the journal and write anything you want to - gossip, venting, organizing your thoughts, your daily calendar, revelations, moods - it's all fair game and make the journals more entertaining for us.
