Hi guys, this is Richard Bobadilla. I'm just posting an update to everything. After months of speaking with military doctors, I finally went to one of the best civilian orthopedic surgeons in the world about a week and a half ago. He told me the five harshest words that I have ever heard. "YOUR WEIGHTLIFTING DAYS ARE OVER". Straight up, no BS. Severe osteoarthritis with no chance for a shoulder replacement anytime soon because of my age. I was really expecting to make a come back, but I suppose that maybe fate or God has a different plan.
Coincidentally, I also had another fateful incident occur. I happened to come across a natural freak of nature. His name is Josh. He hasn't worked out in four months, weighs 210lbs at 5' 10", has solid abs, and a scary upper body. The guy is only 21 years old, but somehow he looks like he's a 30 year old national level bodybuilder. Without being too descriptive and drawn out, I know for a fact that the guy could be an NPC pro within 2-3 years. He told me that four months earlier, right before he stopped working out, he was 235lbs at the same bodyfat (and his training was terrible). After letting the situation soak in, I finally accepted the fact that my less-than-perfect genetics and now handicapped body were done for, and I would never be a pro. I could not pick my own genetics, but I'll be damned if I can't pick someone else's. So I am taking Josh under my wing. I will be posting pictures of him in the near future, and I promise that you guys will see what I mean (can you say 18" split biceps? Can you say PHIL HEATH?).
We just started training today, and I think that he may have it. Genetics are only part of it, but they are an important part. However, he also seems to have all of the other qualities necessary to be a great bodybuilder. Only time will tell, but my gut is encouraging me. We are shooting for a natural pro-qualifier on April 19th. That's right, we are going natural. If he has the genetics, why put him on the playing field with juiced up guys? I just figured I would give anyone out there who is keeping up with me an update on what is going on and my endeavors. On another note, I will be finishing up my master's in Health Psychology next month and begin my PhD on 1Jan. Also, I will be in the Jan 08 issue of FLEX under a Military Muscle section. I finally get to grace the pages of FLEX now that my career is over :P . Train hard, and good luck!
