This has been covered many times: http://forum.bodybuilding.com/search...archid=3112823

That being said, if you are serious about it then you will make it work. The first week or so will be tough because everyone will be getting to know each other so don't stress out too much about every little thing you eat during this period.

Before this summer I always got fatter in summer than lost it during university. I used to never really watch what I eat but the difference is when I'm going to school I lifted weights. This time I'm healthier and more motivated, university doesn't stand a chance to break me.

You can definatly make it work if you want to man. Putting everything on your computer or on a pad of paper and plan out what you want to do. As in diet, or eating schedule around classes, and workout schedule around classes. If your lazy it may be rough, but if you actually put any effort into it, it will be easy.

Tino, i am going to be a freshman in college next year and yes I am a little worried. Not just about the nutrition side, I have come to peace with the fact i wont be able to eat AS clean as I do at home. But I am a little more worried about getting to the gym at least 5 days a weak due to the fact I wont have a car and the recreation center at my college is a 15 minute walk from the rest of the campus like the dorms and facilities. But oh well just gotta make due with the cards your delt =\

You guys are obviously not as serious about your nutrition, body , look, and bodybuilding. If a 15 minute walk is going to stop you from getting serious in the gym, then thats sad. You can eat as clean as you want in college if you prepare and try to. If your lazy , of course you can make excuses, but thats all they are. Get serious , or go home.

When you first get to college, I would say hit the food hall. In all honesty and as much as I may get bashed for this, the dining hall is probably the most massive social spot in college. Many dining halls in most colleges actually have a very healthy selection of food. When I first got to college I was planning to eat clean as hell, and I did. After awhile you learn to incorporate the dining hall in to your diet, flame me all you want. I lift hard, I gain well and my diet before I got my apartment was definantly much better then an average americans, but the nazi's would have yelled at it on this bored. I understand the important of clean eating and my eating to date is about as clean as you can get, but you are a freshman in college, there is more then bodybuilding, remember that.

have fun

haha jeepster. And to str8ripped, i believeyour name is, you obviously don't have a life outside of bodybuilding. I am very serious about bodybuilding but if you dont factor in classes, eating, friends, social events, etc....I'd say 30 minutes traveling time total to the gym eats up a good chunk of time. Not to mention an hour workout. Then hopefully a shower...but since you don't have any friends why would you shower....

Wait wait wait a second here. So your saying any competative bodybuilder that knows how to set his diet, that knows how to work out, that knows what he is doing, has no life? Just bc people know what there doing and look better then you, does not mean they dont have friends, social life, do well in school , etc. I think you would find the opposite, most are more dedicated in school, have more friends, and know how to eat, and have a great social life. Anyone dedicated enough to set his diet, look great, organize his time, sure would know how to organize his time in school and everywhere else. Just bc they do it better then you , you say ignorant **** like that. Is that what you say to layne? Oh layne u must not know how to make your diet, bodybuilding work around other life events. Him like many bodybuilders excell in everything else bc of there dedication to all area's in life.

The dedication and committment to nutrition and working out is beyond the realm of most people's thought.

I see plenty of guys like PureMotivation when I work out on campus; they will make it to the gym three times a week and their plans look like this:

Monday - Chest / Biceps
Tuesday - Biceps / Abs
Wednesday - Chest / Biceps / Abs

Thursday - Off - Drinking
Friday - Off - Drinking
Saturday - Off - Drinking
Sunday - Off - Sunday School

What a JOKE.

And how true this is. The best is also around March, when everyone is out doing double their chest/abs/biceps workouts to "get ripped" for the beaches and spring break.

on college:

this is a calorie log and some tips from an average day last year for me:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...35#post4453835

this is a bunch of tips on keeping lean in college.
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showpo...18&postcount=6

this is a fantastic article:
http://bodybuilding.com/fun/layne6.htm

on drinking:

contains my opinions (pro drinking) and those of many others. take all into consideration.

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...98#post5913698

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showth...47#post6512247

http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=511192

hope these help.

I'd go into it more, but I don't want to get into the drinking debate. The drinking debate is always the same. some people like it, some people think it's the devil.

For what it's worth though, I think I give pretty solid advice on doing damage control from college/drinking. You can find all of that in the links.

it's college... enjoy it, you only get it once...

find a balance between the two

and then pick up muay thai and nrazilian jiu jitsu and realize applicable strength is 100x better then having basically useless strength and size that is only good for staring at yourself in a mirror :-D

Then again I've been in both phases, personally I decided on the athletic, applicable strength though, do miss my overall pure mass a little but you gotta take some kind of tradeoff.

Actually my routine looks like this

Chest/Biceps/Cardio
Shoulders/Tri's/Abs
Back/Traps/Cardio
Legs/Abs

I will probably make it into the gym 5 days a week. I'm not sure why your all are so eager to flame other people, these boards are meant to help. I was merely expressing a concern of mine when I go to college, I dont know what the school work load is going to be like and how i will be able to balance school, workouts, social life and other things...And bc i say this i get flamed by people.

haha jeepster.
In my opinion, and I could be wrong, THAT is why you were flamed.

How could you even think that people wouldn't give you **** over a comment like that?

I will probably make it into the gym 5 days a week. I'm not sure why your all are so eager to flame other people, these boards are meant to help. I was merely expressing a concern of mine when I go to college, I dont know what the school work load is going to be like and how i will be able to balance school, workouts, social life and other things...And bc i say this i get flamed by people.

Maybe because your a 140lb scrawny kid that runs his mouth and has no clue what he is doing. Just get used to bigger kids picking on your big mouth ass.

just enjoy it man, meet some cool people, go out and party, and get laid, and then get back into it. especially if you are living in the dorms, having a good time should be your first priority, you are only 18. good luck man, and don't FAIL OUT

I can see how it could be hard for a lot of people to keep the diet, the gyming part should actually get easier since I find I have more time in college and live closer to the gym (right atop it actually)

but it terms of diet its a huge problem.
Its a mighty pain to go to the grocery store without a car and during my freshman year I didn't have a kitchen, and a lot of my friends didn't have kitchens in their 2nd or even 3rd year! the lack of a full kitchen can put a real damper on any clean diet especially when you factor in the 4000 dollars that your forced to spend on an unclean meal plan.

and of course there are the roomates who might not look so kindly on you stashing food everywhere, and who might not take your sleeping needs seriously.

I'm going into my third year and I found that it was even easier to bodybuild at school. The gym was a minutes walk from my dorm, I got the majority of my food from dining halls, and overtime was able to pack on 20 lbs solid lean mass since my first day.

Some suggestions...
1) Don't let bodybuilding get in the way of school. Chances are you aren't going to become a pro some day and even then you probably need another job to make a living so keep your priorities in line.

2) Get a set routine going that allows you to regiment your day. Layout and choose all the slots in your schedule that you will go to class, train, eat, do homework, etc. The sooner you can get this figured out the easier a transition it will be and also to keep up.

3) Buy some tupperware. This is how I made it living on campus with the diet. Dining halls usually have a pretty decent selection on good foods to eat and this will help cut down on costs of grocery shopping and ease the lack of kitchen with dorm living. The only things I did buy and keep in my dorm besides supps were cottage cheese, milk, cereal, oatmeal, canned tuna (in case of emergency), and natty pb.

Hope this helps and good luck in your studies
