Wisdom teeth coming out! How can I minimize muscle loss without eating solids???
Hi everyone! Here's a tricky one...I didn't know which section this would be most appropriate for.
I'm getting ALL FOUR of my wisdom teeth removed next month!...should be interesting. Anyway, I obviously won't be able to eat any solids for a while so getting fresh protein into my system isn't going to be an easy task.
So how could I go about minimizing the amount of muscle lost until I can chew properly again?? Any tips on staying anabolic??? Any supplements/products??? I was thinking MuscleMilk would be a good one. Any help would be appreciate!!!
Cheers.
Long Nguyen.

It seems like you should only be down for about a week, perhaps slightly more. In that time, you shouldn't notice any appreciable difference. But the time you're able to eat properly again, it shouldn't have been long enough to really make you lose anything. In the meantime, I would just take in an extra Protien Shake a day or something.

Screw what they say. I took no pain killers, and I ate meat that night. It may suck, but try eating with your front teeth. Just make sure you flush your sockets out good! Be careful and don't get infected.

honestly I had all four of my wisdom teeth out at the same time - do yourself a favour and pop the pain killers then eat normally
that's what i did and I recovered a damn site faster than my friends who ate 'soft' food
eg icecream and all that bs

You are making a big deal over nothing. Eat like a rabid pig before you go in for the procedure. You will only be swolen to the point where its tough to eat for one, maybe two days. Eat shakes and soft food the day of the procedure. If you are still swolen on day two eat normally but take your time and eat smaller bites at a time. It's not like you are have knee reconstruction. You will be fine in 1-2 days with a small adjustments here and there.

I'll be going under an aneasthetic (how ever it's spelt)...the one where I'm awake and don't give a **** about what's happening...I'm pretty sure I have to fast before the procedure too. Doubt I'll be able to eat the same day cause the drug will still be in my system and I'll hurl.
Thanks for the replies guys...I'll eat as soon as I can and drink protein shakes like it's going out of fashion!

It's not a big deal, I was eating chicken the next day and didn't even need any painkillers. I'm not saying I didn't take them

my top 2 have come out all the way....SIDEWAYS! haha! they're both facing outwards towards my cheeks so they won't touch the bottom wisdoms, which means that they won't be able to chew food, making them useless and will only cause problems.
The bottom wisdoms haven't come out all the way but the tops are totally visible.
Tops will be wiggled out and the bottoms will be drilled and broken into pieces. fun...
I'll start thinking of making nice tasting blended solids haha....but yeah...shouldn't lose much muscle from what you guys are saying...i'm probably just being paranoid/over reacting.

I work at a dental office.
1. if you are not getting put to sleep then you don't need to do any kind of fasting before it. In fact eat alot before you get them out since you won;t be able to eat any solid foods for 24 hours.
2. remember not to spit, rinse, drink with a straw, and brush your teeth for 24 hours, after that brush but becarefull with the area where you got your teeth pull out. Rinse with salt and warm water.
3. Don't worry about losing muscle men, you'll be able to eat next day just take it easy for a couple of days. Remember that you can drink protein shakes in case you are not able to eat meat.
any more questions just feel free to ask

Was gonna start this same thread soon!
Mine are coming out November 30th. Ugh! Never had surgery before and I'm only getting NO and not anesthetic because that costs 100 dollars more.
I think I'm gonna stop my Scorch while I'm on the antibiotic/ pain meds though.
Resume when pain goes away.

I have to agree with some of the above posts. I think that tehy make a much bigger case out of this than it actually is. I had mine pulled when I was 16, and pitched 5 innings later that night. I was fine until I forgot about my teeth and put a chew in....damn did that burn!

Anybody have a bad experience with wisdom teeth?
Bottom two were impacted sideways facing towards my chin.
And during the extraction my jaw dislocated.
The bottom right of my lip, gums, chin, and jaw have a slight numb feeling and the bottom left is much worse. Can barely move the left side of my lip, cant feel gums, barely my chin.

Easy answer...soft protein.
Protein shakes
Boiled eggs
Tuna or tuna mixed food
Well cooked chicken chopped up
Cottage cheese
Baked fish
Milk
stay away from meat--too much chewing, even hamburger

My father did that. Turns out 4 were impacted and had to be broken. I would take the anesthetic and pay the $100.

My good friend Tyrbo alerted me to this thread: as a Dentist, I will give some input here:
first of all: having all four 3rd molars taken out at once is very traumatic to the body and the system, on several levels:
1. you body has to detox and remove the barbiturate which is used to achieve deep sleep....
2. even with the barbiturate, they still have to thoroughly numb all areas, as, the effect of the barbiturate is over very rapidly, and you must be numb for at least a couple of hours or you will feel REAL pain. The anaesthetic agent injected also has to be detoxed and removed from the body.
3. you will lose blood! yes, there is a good amount of bleeding: you will not see this, because they will suture and apply pressure and it will see to you that you are not bleeding at all, but trust me, during the procedure you will bleed plenty.
4. just an overall trauma to the system: think about it: we are literally RIPPING out 4 teeth that don't really want to come out! removing the soft and hard tissue connections as well as severing the nervous connection.
Discretion here is the better part of valor: just stick with the soft for a couple of days and don't worry about the training: a few days layoff will do more good than harm.
also, I must quote from one poster:

this is called PARAESTHESIA: if you are lucky, it might only be transient or because of the needles when numbing you.
if you are unlucky, it could mean that when taking out one or both of the impacted lowers, they might have done irreparable damage to the inferior Alveolar nerve which runs in the jawbone just right below the root tips of those wisdom teeth.
this has to be monitored closely by your oral surgeon.....

As John said "Soft Food" which doesn't mean "Liquid", eat soft easy to chew food for a few days and don't worry about muscle loss which won't happen in the short time you are down.
