Question eating right before the gym...

Is it bad to eat right before the gym? how long should you wait to lift weights after you ate?

If it is okay to eat before the gym, should you try to eat carbs or more protein?

Eat 1 hour before weights and 1.5 before cardio. Eat 30 minutes after each. There you go. No charge.

recommended amounts before lifting are 30-60g carbs and 30-60g protein depending on body weight. You need both, especially the carbs because they provide you with energy to lift the weights.

also try and drink a protein shake (100% whey and maybe with a banana or oats) RIGHT after lifting.

    goodluck

have a carb meal before weight training, for instant replenish of energy!, eat 1 hour before workout, then shake 30 minutes before workout. Shake should protein + low GI carbs.

I'd say avoid any high sugar foods and stick to complex carbs. Protein is more neccasary after the lifting than before. You will burn off the carbs while lifting and then burn fat after while rpeleneshing your body with protein.

It's not a matter of if it is bad, supplying your body with adiquate nutrients is never bad. It's more a matter of being able to push yourself hard enough and intense enough to get a good workout with food churning in your stomach.

If I eat anything more than a piece of fruit right before lifting, it's going to be coming back up in the middle of doing some heavy squats.

Have some protein and carbs at both meals. Complex carbs before, and simple carbs in the meal post-weight training. Protein is important before weight training and after. Also, I recommend waiting about 30 min after the workout to eat. Let your body calm down a bit, if you work out hard and gulp down a shake immeidately it might come back up, I've seen it and it is not necessary IMO.
