Here's an article that when I read it my aussie heart was over-pouring with joy.

Not to brag or anything but THE WORLD is now discovering what we Aussie's knew for ages. It's simple. Aussie is the best country in the world

AUSTRALIA has been ranked by thousands of international consumers as the world's best brand.

Everything Australian, from the latest pop videos to Prime Minister John Howard, has caught the eye of people in other countries such as the US, Sweden and Japan.

Australia was ranked the No. 1 nation among 25 in a brands index compiled by marketing research firm Anholt-GMI.

One thousand people in 10 nations were asked to rank countries on a series of criteria ranging across tourism, exports, investment, culture, heritage and people.

In its first inclusion in the survey, Australia was No. 1 ahead of Canada, Switzerland and Britain.

Index co-founder Simon Anholt said everything about Australia seemed to be perfect.

"Australia is in the perfect position right now," he said.

"This brands index shows us the world has an appetite for all things Australian."

Australia ranked first in terms of immigration, holiday destination and regional office location.

Australian employees were the most popular, being laid-back, friendly and hard-working.

The survey found Australians the friendliest and most honest.

The top 5 rated countries are for the most part the same over the years so it's pointless to compare them. They are all great countries.

The UNs rankings favor countries that are more Socialist, nor surprisingly, they are generally at or near the top. The Netherlands and Canada above the US? Someone can make an argument for some of the others (with valid points), but Netherlands and Canada? Outside of crime, neither is great. Ask some Scandanavian people what they think of the Dutch in general. PowerSwede maybe? The Norweigians, Danish, and Finnish I have met all hate the Dutch and the country. Hell, look at some of the things they do with murderers! The US is not the best (I'd put a couple or so above), but Canada and the NETHERLANDS?!?!?!

Rankings are based on overall living standards.

Doesn't much of it have to do with Income Disparity, the gap between the rich and the poor? I think that's one of the huge factors along with the generic; employment, education, GDP, Annual Income Per Capita, etc

Almost everyone will be bias towards their home country. I love Australia because of Vegemite!!! And playing golf with cane toads where your neighbours pool is the hole!
