Can anyone explain anabolic steroids to me???
I was just wondering if they could explain anything about anabolic steroids for me. Mainly I was wondering if anyone thinks they are essentials, how they affect you after you get off them and what to take if they are. I have taken a couple anabolic supplements. One of them is an anabolic leucine from GNC, does that sort of thing have steroids? I kinda wanted to stay all natural, is that a good idea, or is steroids the only way?

simplified, anabolic steroids are basically comparatively small fat molecules which bind to a big protein molecule, the Androgen Receptor, thereby activating it (changing its configuration). if two activated ARs meet, they form a Dimer, which then in turn can trigger the gene sequence for protein synthesis. the basic anabolic steroid in your body is testosterone. different anabolic steroids can have varying additional characteristics, resulting in various effects and sides.

your hormone levels will return to normal. or not. you will retain some or most of your gains. or not. you may get mid-term or permanent sides, such as loss of libido, lowered test, erectile dysfunction, etc. or not.

"anabolic" is a word abused by marketeers of bodybuilding supplements. it is intended to indicate that a product induces, enhances or supports protein synthesis (as opposed to protein catabolism). many (most) supplements which are named thusly have none such effect at all. some do (to some extend), but through other pathways than binding to the AR. example: food.

no. many things, such as the amino acid leucine (or food), can have an anabolic effect (supporting protein synthesis). only substances which bind and activate the AR AND which are steroids (there are many many other steroid substances which are not anabolic at all) are truly anabolic steroids. there is some scientific debate about non-steroid substances which also can do this (SARMs), but so far there is NO product which does this (but some scams).

I don't know what it is about books, but a lot of them are filled with this thing called "information".

Thanks Interlocuter, some people on this site are real *******s. You helped clear it up. That's why we're on here right, to talk to other people about lifting and techniques so we dont have to read books to get them. Rep added
