Paul Anderson - 6270 lbs backlift

I don't ever post here because I don't powerlift, but I recently came across a website about this guy Paul Anderson who died in 1994 that did a 6270 pound backlift. I've never heard of a backlift, anyone tell me what it is? Anyway apparently he was one of the strongest men ever. Anyone got any more info about him?

    http://www.mcshane-enterprises.com/ASL/anderson.html

    Bench: 627 pounds

    Squat: 1206 pounds

Deadlift: 820 pounds, he pulled a massive 1000 pounds using metal hooks attached to his wrists. This assisted deadlift was witnessed by Tommy Kono

Clean and Jerk: 480 pounds, unofficial

Push Press: 600 pounds, witnessed by Bob Hise

One Arm Press: 380 pounds, 300 pounds for ten reps; this 380 pound lift was the greatest lift ever lifted overhead with one arm; both were witnessed by Paul Magistratte

Backlift: 6270 pounds, witnessed by Kara Whitfield and Maurice Payne, included in the Guinness Book of World Records

A few pics of his one arm DB Press:

There is a really good article disputing that backlift. I'll try to find it...

A lot of people think the squat wasn't to parallel.

He was definitely EXTREMELY strong, but he's been exaggerated over time.

I can't believe how quickly I found that, lol.

If it doesn't explain what a backlift is, it's when there is a low table that you can barely fit yourself under, and you get it off the ground.

[QUOTE=Heisman2;6531065] the backlift remains controversial . read joe roark ironclad about it . one thing for sure paul could squat 800 10 reps in 1957 . and pressed very heavyweights overhead too

Anderson was a great Lifter & a great man... he trained with the great deadlifter Bob Peoples some, another great lifter with many innovative ideas. The book "King Squat,Rise to Power" has lots of great articles, actual training methods, equipment, pictures on these 2 and many more.

It looks like the Anderson record was challenged, and possibly (the article wasn't explicit) repealed by Guinness due to lack of supporting evidence. Instead a backlift preformed by Gregg Ernst in 1993 of 5,340 pounds was recognised in 2015.

Apologies for the bump (and the lack of url, my post count is too low), it's just reading about Paul Anderson and watching vids of him has been great fun and I wanted the end of the story to be included here too.
