    only snatching

So what do you think about starting off by only working on snatch lifts and assistance geared towards snatching . Is it fair to assume that your clean and jerk would rise as long as you make substantial gains in the snatch?

I think when you first start off you don't really need any real assistance exercises because you mainly just need to work on form and being able to use a decent weight. I don't do any assistance exercises for either lift and they're both going up. (Snatch more than clean and jerk in fact.) And actually, I don't think the clean and jerk is going to go up much if you don't do it. Although the pull is the same, the catch and obviously the jerk (which is what I'm worst at, I can clean a lot more than jerk) aren't, so they need practice in my opinion. I think you could do this later on with more experience when you're just trying to up the weight that you can do with your already good/great form, but otherwise I think you're just hurting yourself.

They won't go up without practice, but if you get stronger in the snatch, you will have the potential to get stronger in the clean.
