Excessive "Video" Threads; Yay or Nay?
The powerlifting/strongman section used to be a section that was full of great training coversation. However, latley, especially with the popularity of sites like youtube, I feel that the training debate and talk has come to almost a complete hault. Instead, every second thread is a video. Don't get me wrong, some vids are great--they can be inspiring or they can help a lifter if he/she needs their form critiqued. BUT, overall, I think they are taking away from the quality of this section.
I would like to hear everyone's thoughts on this and based on the results of what you all have to say, perhaps some changes will me made in this section. Perhaps a seperare section for vids...
Thanks.

I hate videos so much that I've decided to protest these videos by refusing to post anything even remotely meaningful starting now. And, yes, I do like Kevin Bacon just because he is named after bacon.

Aaron, IMO vids are cool, sir. i don't mind seeing many vid threads but i do agree with u about having a middle ground between excessive video threads and excessive actual threads.

well there is already a rule against it...but i really didn't like the videos that people posted to say "look at this dumbass, doing 1/4 squats with 300 pounds, thinking he's cool"
That kind of video did take away.
PRs are fine, form checks too.
I personally like to watch the videos though.
Maybe a subsection?

Someone read the stickies
Yes, this is the current rule...

Two new rules that are aimed to clean up this section.
1) No threads that are basically vids of strangers using poor form, with the resulting posts making fun of these people. Yeah, it is sorta funny, but it takes away from the seriousness and purpose of the forum and turns it into a laughing stock.
2) No calling people out--"post a vid because I don't believe your stats"-- threads. All that happens are a bunch of e-fights.
Any threads like this will be deleted.

You could make a new sticky where people can post videos. It seems that the majority of the videos being posted now are being done by only a few members.

Agreed. There is already a sticky for powerlifting video threads, we could just continue to use that one for new feats of strength that are encountered. The 'look at how pathetic this guy is' threads can go (although today I did post in one for the first time).
Form checks should stay, as if people truly need that kind of help, we should all be willing to provide it.

Keep allowing the posting of vids. There are more good vids posted than bad ones.

i think form check vids are fine (once they get a handful of responses they kind of fade away anyway), and everything else should go into the pl video sticky

Let me just say that I am sick of threads like "18 year old squats 1000 pounds". The videos I like seeing are members of this forum who are posting competition videos of themselves, or form check videos. All this crap of some random lifter in Yugoslavia seems pointless.
The only other thing I could suggest is starting a subforum just for posting videos, so the main forum can be just for discussion.

Please stop JustinStephan making threads with subjects like "What was your 1RM when you could do 315x10?" He makes one of these about every other day and they are getting annoying.

I think if someone posts a video to ask for help, that is fine. It's much easier to give advice when you can see what the lifter is doing right and wrong.
I also think should be ok to post clips of "demo" lifts. Things like "here is how you box squat" "this is how you setup properly for a shirted bench" etc.
I'm guilty of posting PR or meet clips of my own lifts. If that is something we want to stop, I'll do whatever is asked by the mods.
I agree, the clips of "here is a guy I worked out with one time squatting 800lbs" gets old. If they were members here, that's one thing but they are not.

Thanks everyone for the honest and open feedback.
Seems like the consensus opinion is that people like the vids, so I will not change anything regarding the current policy (ie; no calling out vids and no deezweez-type vids).
Regarding ncpowelifter--the member who was posting a lot of vids the other week--I combined all his vids into one thread.
