Spinning 1st-timer!

I am so glad someone told me to wear special padded bike shorts! In that area of comfort I did just fine. Before the class started I told the instructor it was my 1st time. Everyone looked at me in disbelief?"This muscled up chick never did spinning???"?Yeah, well spinning is not the only thing that builds quads

The music our instructor chose was excellent. The instructor herself looked like she could loose 10-15 lbs in her bottom and legs, but BOY did she whip our butts! My legs are throbbing still, and the class ended 2 hour ago. I think I did OK for the first time - kept up with the instructor 85% of the time. But she was great in pointing out that ?it?s YOUR ride, and listen to YOUR body!?

I will definitely be 'buffeting my body' in my spinning class next Saturday bright and early.

If anyone else does spinning, how long have you been doing it and what's your personal benefits from it?

I love spinning, I have been doing it for about 2 years. I love to use it as my cardio because the music gets me going so much. I also like feeling winded after the class.

I have been doing a fair bit of spinning recently as it is the only form of cardio I have bee able to do while recovering from stress fractures. In all honesty, I'm not a fan. I find the quality of the class depends very heavily on the quality of the instructor and some instructors are just terrible!

Ahhh! I love spinning! I've never used the padded underwear (LOL) but I have tried the gel seats....it was too uncomfortable for me. The first class was torture on the tush but after that...I was fine. Developed a callous or something.

thanks, all, for the input. After attending a couple of classes I have to agree with 'imperfectly_lou' - quality does depend on the instructor. Last week I hardly got a workout at all. The instructor was not very engaging....music was some sort of a mixed bag rock with lots of country....How can you push to a song where the guy sings something about 'cheeseburger' and stuff???

I have never attended a spinning class, but I put my bike on a magnetic trainer for the winter. Makes cardio easy to do, since its right there in the house. I'd like to try one of those classes someday, though. Sounds fun.

My first spin class, I bruised all around my entire crotch. It was painful and embarrassing.

I love spin, too. I teach a Buff Stuff class. We do intervals of cardio and strength training. About 2 out of every 3 times we use the spin bikes. That's about the only cardio I get during my off seasons.

I love spinning too - it's so much fun. I've only done it about 4-5 times, but I do remember how sore my butt was after my first class.
