Locking thumbs on pullups more efficient?

Should I grip the bar with thumbs locked? or it really doesn't matter how you hold the bar?

It doesn't really matter. Do what's most comfortable for you. Whatever grip you feel allows you to feel the back muscle working the hardest is the one you should choose.

My personal preference is false grip, with thumbs on the same side as the fingers

On pullups I prefer thumbless, chinups with thumb. Whatever feels more comfortable.

    hmm, its quite simple,

thumbless grip - more work to your forearms to keep you hang

    thumb grip - less work

and by the way false grip isn't thumbless grip, false grip is the way you hold the rings / bar before muscle up

thumbless grip takes the stress OFF the forearms
