These days at 43 years old, 3 orthopedic surgeries and after almost 30 years of training, I don't do much free weight work. Mostly machines, cables and some dumbell work. At this stage of my life, I am not going to add much more mass so I strive for a level of quality that I am happy with. I maintain a weight of about 185 lbs. w/ 5% bodyfat at 5'9".

I think it is fairly accurate. I have not had it tested other than calipers in quite a few years but recently took a series of photos and compared them to similar set of photos I took ten years ago where I competed at about 4% BF and they look pretty close. In fact, a former Mr. USA/Mr. Universe commented to me that he thought the photos looked so close that he felt I could be contest ready in no time and thought it was just a matter of "drying out" by cutting my water and sodium.
As far as being healthy, I dropped my weight by 30lbs. over a period of 10 months and never felt better. My blood pressure and cholesterol are better than when I was in my twenties! To each his own.

Never questioned blood, or cholesterol, or even your muscularity, just the low bf. You will start to see alot of medical articles(in fact you can find some now on the subject) on the long term detrimental health risks to being too lean for long periods of time. 5% is LEAN! Im sure you feel very light on your feet, but I bet an extra 5 pounds of fat back on your frame would be beneficial(and actually feel good), that is assuming your a true 5%.
cheers

Ah, didn't catch the bodybuilding competition part. Also caught your profile. 5%? Your in excellent shape, don't think your that low though(but to me that would be a good thing from my perspective)in the bf dept. Nice tricep and delt development. I bet hydrostatic testing will put you around 7-8%, and thats good. Personally I think some rules should be set on bodybuilding competition. They should set a bf. range, come in too low, disqualified, too high same thing. That way it encourages a healthy natural range for the body. Just my opinion though.

My home gym, just the basics:
- Powerlifting competition squatrek & bench
- Barbell & a little under 500lbs plates
Picture (doesnt fit all on it since the room is to small to take a descent picture)
Just remember, somewhere, a little Chinese girl is warming up with your max.

I'm sorry, the carpet is filthy, I promise to vacuum it tomorow. And I need to get the power rack also. The goal of bodybuilding is to look like a bodybuilder. Period. Not "I just wanna be toned" or "I wanna be strong screw abs." If you don't look like a bodybuilder and don't aspire to then GTFO. Stop worrying if you should cut or bulk, or whether a food is clean or dirty. Instead ask yourself "will this make me a better bodybuilder?"
