It's not "bad" it's just not as good as brown rice under alot of circumstances...if you want to have a little for breakfast it might be ok. I doubt you'd be eating it for breakfast though...lol

You guys are all wrong.
FIRST of all, GI is almost meaningless because we eat every 2 hours anways. There is only a slight correlation between the GI of a food its insulinic reaction.
SECONDLY, Basmatic and Sushi rice is only slightly higher on the GI index than brown rice is. It is missing its BRAN, but that is it. Brown rice is like 52, and basmatic/sushu rice is like 58.
Eat it. The Rice to AVOID is that minute-made stuff like "uncle ben's." That is COMPLETELY lacking nutrients, and is in that state to make more convinient for the user.
The rule I use:
If it takes more than 30 minutes to make on the stove-top, it is good rice.Last edited by DJSTARER; 07-20-2005 at 02:04 PM.

white rice should only be eaten in the later half of the day, its not neccesarily "bad" for you.

Eating every 2 hours doesn't mean we don't need to keep our insulin responses down. You try triggering a large insulin response when cell nutrients are full, and you get adipose tissue production.
The difference between simple sugar complexes, and complex sugar complexes and their GIs is VERY IMPORTANT. Go for what is optimal, not what is "okay".NSCA-CPT.
