Ok first of all thats a lie... Everyone is different and like different things... Now, there is a theory in psicology (cant remember which thinker came up with it) but it kinda puts it like this.
A fat boy grows up with low self esteeme, this little dude starts doubting the idea he will ever get a babe, paralel to that he (without knowing) start to create some kinda preferece for "ugly" girls (if thats a thing), he does this in order to protect himself from rejection and also to protecting him from his own disaproval, in other words, the little guy starts to trick himself into the idea of liking that second kind of girls so that he wont feel the agony and sadness of not getting what he really craves (the babe). Maybe we can apply this to your idea, tho i'm not really confortable with this kind of generalization, maybe the "fat girl" developed attraction out of protection.
