Postworkout - what is best
i know that post workout nutrition is vital in maximizing muscle growth but basically ive always taken a protein after i workout but i am now trying to more understand why and what i am taking is it best to take which of the following directly post workout:
high protein very low carb ex. optimum nutrition pro complex
regulaar ex. muscle milk or ON 100%whey
weight gainer - nlarge2
also which is a better protein to hit before bed for lean gains
a weight gainer, why protein, or a complex with no carbs?
thanks

I personally take Surge by Biotest and have had great results with that.
Whey Hydrolosate mixed with d-glucose, BCAA's, etc.
That is immediately post-workout, and then I take my cell-volumizer (in my case NOZ Super Charged) 20 minutes after that.

protein is the most important nutrient post workout if you want to build muscle but you also need carbs too.
Just take the ON 100%

Don't neglect your PRE-workout nutrition, which is just as important.
Whey + Carbs + Creatine pre
BCAA / Leucine + Carbs during
Whey + Carbs + Creatine post

You can either follow the supp co's advice that the cheapest calories on the planet are what's good for you...or you can actually research it for yourself. F'n sheep.

A supplement company has never advised me to take oats PWO. Perhaps read a few of my posts and see that I use oats, not malto/dextrose.

Who said anything about dextrose / malto being optimal...

Actually, I feel I get the same results just taking 5 grams of creatine post workout, rather than taking 5 grams both pre and post. As for during, I feel water is bst for me. I think BCAA's are not that important when my diet is as perfect as it is and I'm consuming good amounts of protein powders. Also, when I have too many carbs during my workout it doesn't always settle well when I'm doing high intensity. That's just me though. For me, it's cheaper and just as effective.
For post workout I use:
1 scoop AST VP2 hydrolyzed whey
About 35-40 grams of gatorade powder
5 grams AST Micronized creatine
After about 30 mins following my post workout I usually have a meal (such as chicken and brown rice) or I may follow it up with another serving of whey protein powder- usually some like Substance WPI because it's isolate and it's a little cheaper (although it has gone up quite a bit on bb.com).
Isopure is also a good whey protein for post workout- a solid 50 grams protein. I use Isopure sometime too for post workout.

On what body of evidence do you base the fact that carbs are good for you PW? All REAL scientific evidence points in the other direction.

Through my own experience. I'm not saying there aren't other ways, but oats has worked for me and I have tried several things. This excludes me form being a sheep.

I throw Oats in my PWO shake also. It has worked well for me, and I see no reason to change.

You call it hype...everyone else calls it science. We explain how to do the diet in that thread. The book is for the people that care to know why.
I'll answer any questions, but what I believe is well summarized in the book.

carbs are more important PWO than protein. You need sugar to get the body out of a catabolic state and help the muscles absorb nutrients. Protein is very important too though. Try to get some BCAAs for PWO.
