A typical contest day... please outline

Iv never been to any compititions before, only seen the tapes. I am competing in October and November. I would appreciate it if someone would maybe go through how a contest day would go with prejudging, routines, posedowns, etc... for teens. There are no more compititions i can go to watch either, because the one im competing in is the next one up.

promoter should send you a competitor's packet w/ directions and info about weigh-in or drug-testing etc.. Normally you will be expected to attend a competitors' meeting an hour before pre-judging begins. They'll go over the details such as the order that the classes will come out and also they will get your posing music and give you a number to pin on your trunks. Teens usually go near the beginning, so if you're using dream tan, you'll need to get it on as soon as the meeting let's out (may take 20-30min) and start getting pumped-up. When you come out assume your relaxed position, and the head judge will take you through the quarter turns to judge symmetry. Stay tight b/c first impressions are important. Next is Mandatory poses--take your time getting into each pose and make sure you flex your legs. There will be anywhere from 8-14 poses called in this round. The may move you around in the line--don't sweat it. Next, some shows will have you do your routine, and it's usually w/o music, so be prepared in case your regular routine is tied to the music. That's it for the morning session.
There will be another competitors' meeting before the night show, and they'll again go over the order of events. Some shows will bring the whole class out first and have you hit a couple of poses and then file off stage and return individually for your routine. Others will just send you out, and when everyone is finished bring out the class for the awards presentation. Before they give out the awards they'll probably give a little music and call for a posedown. That's pretty much it. Also, in case you don't know, all of the judging is done in the morning. The routine doesn't count for anything nor does the posedown. So have fun with them. I hope this helps.
BTW: Where and when are you competing?

Good comment. I was recently head judge, and got yelled at for not asking for the winner of the class to set out first during the call outs.

Dah. He was first, and we were looking at hte harder questions liek who is 2nd/3rd.

What weight class and category are you competing in??? I am doing the same show... Lightheavy Novice. My first bodybuilding show as well. I have about 6 friends in this show and they have done many shows so if you have questions i'll try to answer.

BTY our show will allow music but only 60 seconds for your individual. Not 61 seconds, I have been told they will cut the music at the time limit.

I sent you a reply in regards to the show. Did you get it? My training and wife :-) don't allow me much time to go online at home and I cannot use any instant messaging here at work. But you can correspond here and I will answer what I am able.

You mentioned you and 6 friends will be competing? In what divisions? Any teen? I am going teen with one of my friends. Im pretty straight on the things you sent me. Already know what poses look good for me, got the mandatories down pretty decent. Gotta design a routine. Since im a teen, i was told im not judged on the routine too much, but i also know that we all must do our free posing without music in the prejudging. I shouldnt get fancy at all with my free posing being a teen right? Just stick with the mandatories? Any idea what songs you guys are using, so i dont duplicate them? As of now im either goin with Saliva- Your disease, The Game- Motorhead, or Wait and Bleed- Slipknot.

Another thing, there is no pose off for teen division is there? If so, how is this done?

Maybe a possible discription of how and when these things are done: symmetry relaxed, 8 mandatories, free posing, pose off. is this ALL repeated at the night show? Do they do ALL for one division and then to the next or they do each round for all classes, then move to the next?

Wanna make sure i know what to look and listen for.

I don't know if there is a pose off for the teen division... You are smart starting so early. I am 26 and truly regret not starting years ago! [NE way that's my problem]

I am not doing anything from your list of music. I have a couple of things I am listening to but not quite sure what dirrection I want to go in. I get cought up in music and if it is too fast there is the potential for me to just run through my routine.

Yes, I would recomend just hitting manditories as your individual. Remember KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid! LOL but it's true. Simple and graceful equals professional.

Mine will look something like this:
    Left Facing Side Chest
    Left Facing Rear Double Bicep
Left Facing Twisting Bicep and Tricep
    Rear Lat Spread
    Rear Double Bicep
    Right Facing Tricep
    Front Lat Spread
    Front Pointing to the Sky
    Abs and Thighs
    Crab Most Muscular

I would really like to hear more from jimratpa since he is/was a judge!

I am not quite sure of the exact order things but I ASSUME, that they will run everyone thru each catagory before entering the next catagory.

    Judges, please reply!

By the way! Did you see who the quest posers are? They should really make things enjoyable for the male audiance members!!!

Each class will go through all of its categories at once, and then the next class will do all of theirs.
    1. File out on stage w/ class
    2. Symmetry round--quarter turn relaxed poses
    3. Mandatories--will begin as soon as you make last quarter turn to face front. Without a break, the hj will begin calling poses. Typically FDBis and FLS, then 1/4 turn to right and side chest and sd tri (maybe side serratus/oblique), 1/4 turn and RDBis and RLS (maybe up on calves and/or hamstrings), 1/4 turn and sd chest and sd tri, 1/4 turn and ab/thigh and most musc. you never know what the hj may call for so be prepared for anything
    4. File off stage.
    5. If you do routine in a.m., you will be called out one at a time to perform. That should be it
