Dr. says it's weightlifter's shoulder. Basically it's a degeneration of of the a/c joint at the end of the collarbone. Hurts mostly on bench pressing when I start getting up a little in weight. Nothing can really be done except maybe a cortizone injection at this point. Does anyone have some advice or a similar experience?
Hate to tell you but that is actually what a lot of doctors call it. The clinical term if you must know is osteolysis of the distal clavicle... It is often called weightlifter's shoulder because it is seen in a high percentage of people who exercise with weights, especially power and olympic style lifters. But anyhow, I was looking for advice or people with a similar problem not some off handed criticism.

I believe there's a whole thread about people who went through surgery for weightlifter's shoulder. Results look promising.
Got two cortizone shots in my right shoulder today. Dr. did a lot of movement tests. Doesn't think it's a R/C problem. And doesn't think it's too severe in my A/C joint. Thinks it may just be some inflammation or beginning stages of the degeneration of the joint. Hopes the shots will fix me up. Said I should be back to full speed by next week. If not wants to do an MRI and refer me to an orthropedic to determine if I need surgery... Hoping for the best. Regardless, I'm going to try and get over the ego thing and not push the heavy weights anymore on chest and delts. May actually force me to be more of a bodybuilder type trainer. May even help me lose some of this blubber I need to get rid of. I've always tried to be a middle of the road type utilizing both styles of training. This may be better for me health and physique wise.
