Smile Megan's awesome keto log thingy

Okay, so I've been lurking for a while. I tried out eating keto style a few months ago for about a month, and I really liked the no-hunger feeling while dieting ( on a higher carb diet I am usually STARVING when I'm below maintenance on cals) so I'm going to give it a go again until at least January ( if i still like the diet/results, ill keep doing it, if not then I'll just go back to eating "clean" as they call it). I don't have too much to lose thankfully. Last time I weighed myself I was 128 ( I'm 5'6). I have no idea what my bodyfat level is..I will post some pictures tomorrow or the next day. I wear a size 6 or so in pants and want to get back down to a 3/4. The past few months I've been attempting to build some muscle in my butt, which genetically is very pancake-like in appearance (ugh!)...I think I managed to put a little on, so we'll see how that looks as I lose bodyfat...lol...
oh, to tell a bit about myself, I'm 21, I am married ( yeah yeah, I KNOW I'm young... :0) and I play drums in a band with my husband. we are currently recording a demo and hope to tour around the US next summer. I am also a student ( i am taking this semester off though to focus fully on music) majoring in anthropology. yeah! I've always been active in sports, in high school i did soccer, cross country, track, and roller hockey. Since high school I've gotten more into weight training and I just recently started running again.

OH, and no one probably cares, but I just got two chinchillas as pets! They are seriously the coolest and cutest things ever. I just love them to death...yeah..ill have to post some pictures of them..

Okay, so I started eating keto style on saturday. I'm not sure if I'm in ketosis yet ( i dont have any stix) but I sort of feel like I'm not. Hopefully tomorrow. Tomorrow I will post my menu/workout/etc

all right, so it's been going good the past few days. I didntget a chance to post yesterday, but I ate pretty well. I made myself a protein shake which tastes AMAZING....its:

1 scoop low carb vanilla whey pp
    1.5 teaspoons peanut butter
    1 tbs heavy cream
1 teaspoon raw cacao powder from whole foods
lots of ice and blended up..yum..sort of like a reese's peanut butter cup

Just got back from the gym...had a good workout but didn't do too much cause i think im going back tonight with my hubby. I'm going to go running in a few minutes as well.

I looked in the mirror this morning and I can tell I'm getting more cut. it could just be the water loss, but my muscles are definitely showing more..i like...my legs are feeling and looking more lean as well. I had this dream last night where I was just sitting on my couch, but wearing short shorts and I was looking at my legs, which happened to be muscular and extremely lean and tan, and I was like 'woah! these are awesome..' so lets see if that dream comes true.hahhaha
i really enjoy eating keto style. I love loading on the full fat cheeses, mayo, sour cream, avocado, almond butter, etc. It's great, although I do have to admit I miss fruit. I am usually a big fruit fiend. I love eating like 2 cups berries in one sitting. sigh. the day will come.

One thing I noticed is im not eating enough veggies. so today im going to try and get in a few servings of broccoli and green beans.

Okey...so yesterday was Halloween. Pretty uneventful, I didn't even dress up! My husband and I were planning on going to some haunted corn maze thing, but then by the time I picked bryan up from the bart it was already late and we were both tired, so we just hung out at home and watched the simpsons and played with cheswick and icarus ( our chinchillas). I was craving carbs insanely last night, and I was determined not to give in, but then I decided to have about 1.5 cups of berries and one cookie. I going to allow myself some halloween candy, but when I thought about it, I really didn't want it and the berries and cookie satisfied me quite nicely. I'm glad I didn't get that mentality "ohhh noooo i screwed up im doomed may as well eat everything in sight tonigt and back to the diet tomorrow". I actually used to be like that, but then I read the book Intuitive Eating which helped me a lot. I took like 2 months off of dieting/or counting anything and just ate what i wanted and when I wanted, and i didnt even gain any weight. It was pretty nice, but in order to get as lean as I want to, I know I need to count.
My abs and glutes are extremely sore today. Well, they were a lot worse yesterday. I could barely walk...lol.

I plan on doing about an hour or so of light cardio today..hopefully that will help with the sore muscles. And I NEED to make sure I get enough veggies in today. I barely had any yesterday..pathetic..lol.
I made this weird meal yesterday...it actually came out realy good even though it sounds a little gross..
I just got a few handfuls of shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese, some jalapenos, a little cottage cheese, and baked it until the cheese on top was a little browned...then I put a few tbs of sour cream on top and more jalapenos. It tasted very similar to those "jalapeno pooper" things with the cream cheese...just without the breaded shell...it was very satisfying.
Today so far I had one of my "reeses" shakes. Not sure what I will have for lunch. Maybe another jalapeno popper thing. Or maybe an omelet. We'll see. I'm trying to average around 1500 cals a day.

Hi Megan! I like your "Reeces" shake, I'm going to have to try that!
I was just talking with one of my friends at work about the million and one ways I try to trick out my protein shakes.
Good luck with your goals and nice to have another woman here on the keto boards...there's quite a few of us now, it seems.

PS Intuitive Eating is a GREAT book. I just finished a really good one by Gloria Aronson (SP?), A Substance Called Food. Also good, a little different perspective than Intuitive Eating.

Okay..so I had a carb up of sorts today, which I know probably was not needed physically, but psychologically it felt pretty good. I had oatmeal, lots of berries, casadillas, 2 raw cookie dough square things, some rice, and tootsie rolls. Not very clean...sigh...oh well.
I've been trying to decide if i should do more of a ckd or a tkd. Im not sure which one is most appropriate for me and my goals. I workout with weights 2-3 times a week, full body, and I started doing cardio recently around 5 days a week (mainly just hiking/jogging for around an hour, sometimes running fast...depends on how i feel i guess). I really want to find an eating style that I can maintain and not have to stress out too much over. I wonder if I could do keto long term without any ill effects? I want to be able to lose the fat, and maintain my loss (well duh i guess thats what anyone wants..hah) and be healthy and feel good and energetic.

need to go to the grocery store tomorrow and get some more grub..cheese, hamburger meat, fish, veggies, etc.

Moria, thanks for the response. I'll have to check out the Substance Called Food book. I'll probably like it

I just read another thread about intermittent fasting. Does anyone know someone who has had success using keto and IF? I like the idea of it because its a pain in the butt to try to eat 5-6 times a day like every 3 hours. It seems it would be easier to stay in my calorie range and not go over. I'm still trying to figure out the ideal diet for me. I like keto because I don't get blood sugar crashes and it just seems easier to diet in general, but I also really miss my carbs sometimes ( mostly berries, apples, yams). I think I just need to find a plan and STICK with it. I want to find a way of eating that I can stick with for a long time, even after reaching my ideal body so I can maintain it, that doesn't require too much anal planningI know consistency is really the key. I think I would like to try the intermittent fasting approach. I'm going to start tomorrow and go for a week and see what happens, still eating keto style. I'll let you know the results.

There are some people on bodyrecomp who has used keto and IF successfully. I'm doing it atm too. Feel good during the day at class and doing whatever, then I get to eat a few lbs of meat at night.

Also, it's cool to see someone else who likes Paramore I've been listening obsessively to Riot! for the past few weeks. I'm trying to learn most of the songs on that album, plus some from All We Know Is Falling. I have some of Emergency down (favorite song by them). Seeing as you play guitar, do you know if they usually go drop D or if they downtune across the board, or what?
