Help New To Powerlifting
ok you guys, i've just been lifting to keep in shape, never really powerlifting, not quite full all out bodybuilding... just a consistent lifting schedule...
currently my stats are......
weight: 123
Bench- 185
Squat 155
Deadlift - 200
first let me explain why my dealift and squat suck as much as they do....
about 2 months ago, i was able to squat 255, and dealdift 285....then i completely, and i mean completely, ****ed up my hamstring tendon, which put my out of leg work for 2 months, and i am slowy easing my way back into lifting.. and i decided i wanna go for strength, and powerlifting.
Now what im looking for is a good strength routine to follow, so i can get stronger(full body, not just the 3 lifts that west side is upsessed with)... anyhelp would be good... either post some of your routines that have been really successful, or e-mail me with them....
thanks,
jay

If you're looking for something to 'ease' into....how about this.
Do this once or twice a week....lift hard, lift heavy, eat like a horse and rest. It'll give you a good base to start from until you're ready to get into a more specific routine.
Clean and press (or standing militaries) 2-3 sets 3-8 reps...usually I'll do 1-3 singles after the working sets
Barbell rows - 3 sets 6-8 reps.
Dips (weighted) - 2 sets of 8-12 reps
Squats - 5x5s
Deadlifts or Good Mornings - I usualy tend to work up to heavy singles.
It may not seem like much but if you're lifting hard, it'll wipe you out! It's all the big lifts which will help your size and strength.
Last thing...a word on westside....you're right, the westside method tends to emphasize improving your squat, deadlift and bench press but keep in mind, it's geared towards competitive powerlifting which is benching, squatting and deadlifting. Also, while it does emphasize those lifts, don't think that you won't gain size or strength from it. I've used it before and my arms got bigger (not to mention my legs, back and shoulders)....don't knock it...it works!
Later and good luck!

ahh im very glad i found a thread like this, i was just about to make another. i have been lifting for going on 7 months. i've put on around 25 pounds. i just recently decided that all i was really focusing on was my max lifts, really. is there a big difference between a PL workout schedule and a BB workout schedule? if so, could someone please give me an example of a PL one. thanks

powerlifters don't even come close to bodybuilders
1. powerlifters are much stronger
2. most powerlifters wiegh less then bodybuilders (proffesional level)
3. powerlifters don't abuse roids (as bad) as bodybuilders
4. powerlifters don't eat as much as bb's
