Myoplex Lite and Bloating - Suggestions!
Hi Everyone! A few weeks ago I noticed bloating, gas, and a few other complaints. However, it was nothing major, and I assumed the bloat was due to various foods contained in my meals, because Myoplex lite is 99% lactose free(see link), and I can handle up to 5 grams of lactose.

However, over the last few weeks, I've tweaked meals, and have still noticed this problem, and the gas etc is starting to increase. I drink plenty of fresh water, and the only thing I'm eating other than clean foods(which I tolerate without any problems) and healthy fats, is Strawberry Myoplex Lite Powder in the packet(began with two shakes, now only one). So there is something in the powder I may not be able to handle. Other than bloating etc I feel fine.
I'm looking for different opinions so that I can possibly avoid whatever it may be in the future. A few people suggested it may be the splenda, but I'm not sure. I may switch back to egg protein since I've never had problems with that, or eliminate shakes completely. Also, someone suggested hemp and pea protein powder which I may look into as well. Any other ideas? Thanks, T

Possibly the sugar alcohol - xylitol. Sugar alcohols have been known to cause gas/bloating/diarrhea in some people. Also, the partially hydrogenated oils found in the Myoplex Lite are not the best choice. You might want to try just a simple whey protein isolate powder (isolate is usually better-tolerated than concentrate) that doesn't have all the processed stuff the Myoplex products have & see how that works for you.

Thank you Speedpuppy.

You may want to look into a probiotic to aid with digestion. I use BioBeads.
Why are you using an MRP with Malto as a carb source while cutting?

I've tried using digestive enzymes when I consume sugar alcohols, but they don't seem to help in preventing bloating or gas (unpleasant...). I think the key is to only consume a small amount of sugar alcohols at any give time. If you are allergic to the lactose in the bar, then digestive enzymes should definitely do the trick!! I'm lactose sensitive myself, and I get pretty bad symptoms if I don't have some digestive enzymes (consuming lactase) when I have dairy.

That's how my body responds to wheat, I have a sensitivity to it. I thought it was flour in general, but it's only wheat. I get bloated (after the cravings send me on a food binge) then I have 3-4 of digestive "issues" including gas. Needless to say, I don't eat wheat anymore and the symptoms are gone.
All that to say, you're body may not like this supplement.

Myoplex Lights is fine. Do not listen to someone who has a bias towards a brand. If we all believed this person we would buy 1 Brand.

Hi Vanessa, I just visited your profile, and want to congratulate you on all that you've achieved. I began with the Body for Life program, and Myoplex lite was recommended as a meal replacement for those attempting to lose fat. So originally I was taking it post weight training.
I didn't realize it had malto included(was that question for me?). I'm learning a great deal about food and how my body responds...so this first 12 weeks will be a learning experience. Please share your thoughts on the above. Also, I've read about probiotics. Typically how long do you take those? Miss T

Hi Nik, I believe probiotics are supplements which increase flora in the intestines, and not a meal replacement or protein shake. T

Girl, I didn't realize that wheat was a problem for me as well. Last week I chose to tweak wheat in my meals, and IMMEDIATELY felt the difference in my energy level. I just had no idea. T

Hey Kasper, thanks for this feedback. I've heard a few people will experience dizziness and other problems from various shakes, but fortunately, I didn't have that problem. As you mentioned, it was just the gas and bloating. Intially I thought maybe I was swollen from weight training. lol Too silly. T

Thanks for the props.
Maltodextrin is technically a complex carb, but it digests like a sugar, therefore having a good size imapct in insulin. I use complex carb sources only when cutting and feel it has a positive impact on my progress. I save the malto and the simples (and I limit them even then) for offseason and mass gaining objectives.
Probiotics are a staple for me. I don't discontinue their use. While bulking, they aid in digesting all the calories I take in, and while cutting to get the most nutrition possible from meager calories.
Tablet probiotics are usually worthless because heat pressing a tablet will kill the live bacteria. Capsules are better, but best imo is the BioBeads product because it has a triple shell and will make it to the intestinal tract without being destroyed by stomach acids first.
I hope that helped.

Thanks for this feedback, and I'll definitely keep everything in mind. The more I learn, the more I need to learn. lol Also, I wanted to ask if it was difficult for you to walk in the shoes required for figure competitions? If so, what did you do to prepare ahead of time? Typically, how tall are the heels for most women? T

4" heels. The judges don't care for the higher shoes with the platforms any more. I just wear them around the house a few days a week, especially in the kitchen where there is a hard floor. I suggest ones without any decoration since the whole point of clear shoes is to elongate the leg uninterrupted. I also like the ones without an ankle strap for this reason, and also so I can kick them off as soon as I get backstage!
The learning process never ends - isn't that great? In this sport I feel I have improved myself in mind and spirit as well as body, and I look forward to more growth for all of the above!

I've always wondered why the shoes were clear. Never thought about that. It really is about mind, body, and spirit. If I were training only to "look" better(which I've done in the past), I would have given up weeks ago. Great point! Have an awesome weekend sis, and thanks for all your help. T
