looking for sponsors
Hey guys, I'm a young natural bodybuilder in Toronto ooking for sponsors to help support my training for my first upcoming competition at the end of October. I'm extremely serious about this, just need help financing the training. Can anyone help out? Please reply to my email here or to venga19@gmx.de
Thanks Rob

dude, i have been sending out resumes and portfolios every year. i have had some success. muscle and fitness uses me for shoots. but a sponcer has been the most difficult to come by. compete -alot and place well in a national contest. im hoping that once i break the top 5 in my class i will be taken more seriously. so just contact as many companies as possible. BE PROACTIVE
good luck

the natural guys have tougher go of it in regards to solid sponsorships...simply because we are not as visible to the public. You really have to have some awesome genetics to distinguish yourself form the rest of the crowd, in addition to a top-notch work ethic. I would advise you to compete as much as possible. If you can win a couple of regional shows your name will start to circulate...the natty circuit is a fairly small group. You will almost certainly have to get a WNBF pro card before you get anything though. Good luck and train hard!
Sponsorships would be great though...this stuff is not cheap. LOL

Man...hearing these comments makes it sound as if it's completely useless to compete as a natural bodybuilder....Just wanted to try at least one competition out of pure satisfaction of the sport. I've always wanted to try it out. It's not my intention to get known or whatever. Thanks for you guys who are still pushing me to have a go at it. As for the training aspect of pre competition training...for a first timer like me, do you guys recommend that I get a professional trainer who's experienced at competing and training prospective competitors?...or do you think it's possible to do it alone?

given the pics you posted, you have a lot of potential. If you really have a passion for the sport, you really dont care about sponsorships. I mean, it would be great, like I said, to get a good sponsorship and cut your costs way down...but beyond that it just doesnt matter.
As for natural competing not being worth it...in my view, competing in anything OTHER than a fully drug tested show is not worth it. Anybody can take drugs and improve to some degree with even a moderate workout program. Some become Ronnie Coleman and many do not...but in the natural ranks its all about hard work, clean diet year-round and genetics. Assuming you are all natural by the INBF/NANBF standards, you clearly have the genetics. You can comete and do well for yourself. A WNBF prcard would be within your reach if you want it bad enough. I say go for it, compete and never look back. If you can prove to the right people that you have what it takes you will also have your sponsorship.

word, I just got a sponsorship last year... but even if i didn't it would not change the way I feel about competition & my love for it. You haven't even done a show yet, so don't expect things to fall at your feet. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, just realistic. Over time things will happen if you are dedicated.

I agree with Layne...thats just the way this sport(and every other sport) is. Whether you are Micheal Jordan or Ronnie Coleman, you compete because you love it. If you have the right stuff you get recognized, IF you are lucky. That said, many never get any recognition and they work just as hard and want it just as bad. I used to think of that as a bit of a tradegy...but I now think those that live the life without the accolades(in any sport) are the real hero's. It takes courage to walk the walk with no real financial upside. I would love a great sponsorship and a lot of press and money...but I really don't need it and will continue in this sport as long as I am physically able. Its all about passion. I digress...
That said, anybody want to sponsor me? LOL.

ur upper body is looking very good! but ur lower body half seems to be laggin behind ..i dnt if its cuz ur not posing them or not ..but i have seen guys lose contests with incredible upper bodies but unfortunately lacked balance in the lower half by a more smaller balanced guy. dnt let that happen to u .
other than that looking damm gd ..and defo go for competing ....experience is a valuable thing.

where the f-k did you find this 2 year old thread?
You must have been trawling using key search words like "sponsor" and "muscle worship"
creepy....

ok - I won't touch the other posts --- lol
As far as the sponsorship goes, I started at the local level first. I put together a press kit that included a resume, pics (comp cards) and a cover letter outlining my needs and what I would do in return (shoots, events etc)...that got me free mystic tans, hair and makeup (lol), free gym membership and discounts on supplements oh, and my competition clothing as well (again lol not for you). Before a major show I put together another press kit and sent it to ALL the exhibitors. Between the prejudging and finals I made the rounds and introduced myself. Most were aware who I was due to my press kit sent a few weeks earlier...they were all impressed with the professionalism I showed and the 'above and beyond' I went. Still nothing happened that weekend. The weeks following though I followed up. I emailed/called/sent letters to each company I was interested in. From there I got some interest....I found out StarChem was going to be at a local club (they are from NYC and I am from Toronto, so I had to take advantage of this)...I went down, met the president et al and the rest is history. He had heard of my name and was pleased I took the time to come down to him...
Is this a pain? Yep. Require work? You betcha! But remember there are a ton of great looking bodies (you seem to know this now lol) and stunning faces out there....you need to raise above the bar!
Good luck
