Talking TheWolf324's journal.........(hey maybe he will actually keep it current, lol)

Alright boys, its on, I'm gonna try and post up my progress as I go. Dont know if I plan on doing a show a few years in the future or not, but you guys have definatly motivated me to keep a log and bust out at the gym. I dont really feel like posting routines all the time but I'll do what I can.

I actually just got home from the gym and waiting on my food to cook here. What a night it turned out to be. As some of you know I have been fighting this damn cold for a couple weeks now and decided to take a few days off from the gym and get some rest. JUST WHAT THE DOCTOR ORDERED! I came back in today and nailed my chest workout, not as heavy as I would have liked, but I figured I would be taxed after a few sets. I pumped out 3-4 sets of high reps around 15 on incline, flat, flies, and crossovers, once completed I did my LI cardio. On cardio I dropped my speed on the treadmill a little and increased the incline, it felt a lot more productive then normal and I was sweating like a beast, so I think I'll stick with that. Once I got done I rocked out abs with some leg lifts and crunches. Still feel kinda weak from being sick, but that will subside and I'll be back in full force!

Pics from progress from when I first started to take them to come.

this is the only pic I can find from when I first started back up again after not working out for 3 years back in January. I finally got tired of being the fat guy, and since I was wearing suits everyday they started getting expensive buying when they dont fit.

These were taken last week. Since being sick, I was pretty dehydrated, but needed to do something to keep my spirits up, so I took some pics. Oh and my suit I wore in my wedding in may of 05 finally fits again, but now the others are too small , thats the change I dont mind making (besides I wear t-shirts and jeans to work now).

So I'm getting ready to hit the gym, just sippin my vasoexplode and dialene 4. This stuff is great to get you reved to go and hit it, especially on days like today where the energy just isnt fully there. I figured I would post before and maybe after since its leg day. I usually get pretty pumped about leg day since it usually means no waiting for stations since everyone at my gym seems to just do upperbody. Oh well I'm off to torture them legs!

Workout is as follows
Squats 3x15
Leg Presses 3x15
Extensions 3x15
SLDL 3x15
Leg Curl 3x15
Standing Calves 3x15

If I'm up to it at the end and my legs are in a state of euphoria I'll try and work em in some light cardio, this tends to keep the soreness down the next day.

Just got back from the gym, well I got back a little bit ago, but I was just able to pry myself up off the floor . I dont know what I'm smiling about, I'm pretty taxed. I decided to hit up the treadmill first, for 2 reasons. 1) at the end of the workout I knew I wouldnt be able to walk let alone do cardio (reminds me of the guy who asked choke if he was gonna do cardio on leg day, lol), and 2) I figured it would help get the blood pumping to my legs.

30 minutes of LI uphill cardio at 10% incline on treadmill.

ATG Squats
135x20x2 warmup
205x15x1
195x15x1
185x15x1

I tried to keep the rest time in between to a bare minimum hence the drop in weight (that and I'm a puss ). All and all I felt pretty good, but coming off the cardio I was starting the sweat factor. Saw my best friend from back in the early years of high school, kinda came across as a dick, mainly because I dont like to stop and talk when I workout and lose any kinda pump I got going. Also I really get uncomfortable sometimes starting conversations with people face to face sometimes, dont know why just do.

Leg Press
360x15x1
340x15x1
320x15x1

I was already seeing a drop in stamina the second exercise in, bummer. I spent the past few months doing only a couple exercises a day, really focusing on form, which I'm glad I did but just wish I could hold my own a little longer now. I just tell myself not to worry strength and stamina will come back.

Leg extensions

I did the 3x15 but I'm not sure of the weight because the gym's ext. machine is pretty old, but I selected the weight to push and rocked out 2 sets and dropped it a little for the third. By this time I was so disoriented that I needed to rest for a few before heading to the next.

Leg curl

130x15x3

I should have done more weight but I was so light-headed by now and the great lakes had pushed through my pores. I was pretty disappointed in not doing more but my focus on not bouncing the weight and keeping it tight was more important. I tried after this taking a break but in the end decided to call it early, so pissed about it now that I'm feeling better. I'll hit calves to make up for it next workout so not to fear they will be worked this week.

I feel like I'm missing something on this post though (?)

Almost forgot when I finished my cardio, I was walking in the back of the gym to the squat rack when I overheard a kid saying "Its only Amino Acids its not like its going to do anything for you!" I just kinda laughed on the inside and carried my gallon jug of xtend to the back with me. The dude is pretty big, but unfortunatly not very wise!

So tonight I did my normal wed. night dinner with a few guys a used to work with, although this is getting harder to do during dieting. All went well I had some excellent broiled haddock, and some greens. Let me tell you how good the trey of mini carrot cakes and desert menu looked. This place is all homemade stuff so it makes it that much worse! Hung in there though and didnt sell myself short.

So this week was actually pretty productive, the day or 2 after each workout I was feeling it. I actually still feel my arms from friday. This is such a sweet pain that I look forward to. Today is my second rest day of the week and I plan to tweek my workout a little so that I train shoulders with my chest, and add another rest day. My body seems to respond better to this overload and then the extra rest.

Yeah, I have a real bad habit of not liking to keep track of stuff, but I really want to see my progress over time with more then just pictures. Plus I figure it will motivate me to work a little harder, and bring up the intensity quite a bit to hopefully be at you guys level someday.

Here I am thinking I was the only one. Haha, I actually go outta my way to pass the icecream isles as well just to see what new flavors are out, it's always interesting to see how they can combine anything into icecream.

Yeah I've noticed you like the combo's like I do, "what that fits in the blender too!!! Throw it in" I mix everything, hey if it's not gonna taste good by itself it might as well not taste good together!

warm up 2x20 on incline DB press, and cable crossovers

Incline press 80x6+2x1 (had to rest pause to complete this one), 75x8x1 (dropped the weight to finish in one swift set), 70x8x1

Flat Flyes 40x8 (kinda felt light but thought I would up the weight instead of reps), 45x8x2 (there we go that felt better)

Chest press 175x8x1, 165x2

Standing Military press 80x8x3 (second set fet good, third was pushing it, prolly should have hit a little heavier but shoulders usually hurt pretty good if I go to heavy and dont worry about form)

Front lateral raises 30x8x1 35x8x2

Side laterals 25x8x2

45 minutes of LI Cardio

Back and traps

warmup with light weight hitting the back from different angles

Pullups: BW x 6x3

I'm getting better at these, I try and keep my form strict with no jerking movements. Theres one dude at the gym who seems pretty dedicated to his workouts but when he does pullups he nearly rips the station from the floor. We were talking one day and he was like "I know my form sucks but I never used to be able to do them because of a shoulder injury" wonder why? (note to self: pay attention to form)

T-bar rows 135 x 8 x 4

Deadlifts 255 x 8 x 3

Felt good through the first 6 reps and pushed out the last 2, just like I wanted. Now if I could only get the numbers up!

Bent over rows 155 x 8 x 3

Grip was for sure failing me on these (thank goodness I brought in the straps). Used a r/p on the last 2 reps of the last 2 sets

Close grip pulldowns on cybex machine 190 x 8 x 1, 200 x 8 x1, 205 x 8 x 1

I dont usually like the cybex machine for close grip but the other stations were occupied and I didnt feel like waiting.

BB Shrugs 225 x 8 x 3

DB Shrugs 95 x 8 x 1, 100 x 8 x 2

finished with 20 minutes of HIIT

Welcome to my world, where all I think about, every day... is either the gym or my dad. And they usually combine into one deadly workout.

My story!

I guess basically my story seems to start out like everyone elses. I was small, really small growing up. My freshman year of high school I was actually finally excited that I was over 90 lbs. Growing up I was constantly teased for my size, causing me to do anything to justify it. Football didnt work, it just made matters worse, do you realize how far someone under 90 lbs goes sailing when you hit them! Track was no better, my short legs just didnt make me a fast sprinter. Finally in Jr. High I discovered that running was perfect for me, lightweight, and a great bit of endurance from running from bigger kids . At this time I had also tried to lift weights but didnt have a wide selection of sand weights around the house, I believe I was lucky to have a total of 50 lbs. Money was extremely scarce at my house so I didnt dare ask for a weight bench, or weights, looking back I wish I realize I was perfect for weight lifting and wish I would have stuck with it. Once I discovered running I finally had a feeling of satisfaction, because finally I could out perform others. I became so good in Jr. High that I could train with the high school students. My mother ended up remarrying and we relocated to the country and a new school. Things at the new school didnt go over well either, actually it was worse. I fell short in the distance running due to injuries to my knee that prevented me from training, so I gave it up. As well I gave up all exercise, realizing that it was easy to put on weight when all you do is party. Finally after school I became very in tune with partying, and packed on some serious weight I went up to 215, and finally realized that I needed to do something, so I started running again, no weights, just running. I competed in local races as well as entering the Akron Marathon. Well I thought I was doing great losing 60 lbs and dropping to 155, but something was still wrong I was still fat, worse yet I was skinny fat (looking back I've never been anything but, except for just plain fat). After I ran the marathon, I felt satisfied and quit running again (bad mistake, but one of the best I've made). This time the weight took its time coming back, about a year and a half. By the end of 2006 I had put on all the weight plus some, weighing in now at 245 (first thing in the morning, heck when your big you try and do any trick to keep that number low). I felt pathetic, now having my wife crop me outta pictures, because I didnt like the way I looked. Actually I think I only have one that shows me at that weight, and thats mainly cause my suit hides most of it.

Realizing that if I kept on living the way I do, I would end up like my father. My dad is extremely overweight, bouncing between probably 300 and 350. Knowing all kinds of treats were in my future including but not limited to heart disease and diabetes (both in the family history), it was once again time for a change. So what do I do, you got it do what I know, RUN! Ok now this sounds like a good idea, untill you go out and do it in Dec., in the snow, out of shape. I stuck with this for about a couple months, when I realized that I should supplement my running with some weights. I didnt get the bug quite yet, but I can see where it was gonna hit looking back now. I started to spend a little more time in the gym and less on the road. My wife decided to take up the fine art of tattooing on makeup so we packed our bags and headed to San Antonio for a week so she could get her certification. Low and behold the hotel happened to have a gym, and since it was very hot outside compared to Ohios weather, thats where I stayed. In some ways I feel I never left that gym, especially since the only reason I run is for certain cardio workouts. Bodybuilding is something I took an interest in when I was a kid, because my aunt competed in a few local figure shows and my uncle got into bodybuilding, seeing there size thats what I wanted, just never knew how to achieve it. I've always been told that "patience is a virtue" and "haste makes waste", words I live by today. I've shedded alot of the fat, but know its still a long journey, and one that never ends. I dont claim to be a bodybuilder (not yet at least), but I do claim to work as hard as I have to to become one. Thanks for taking the time to read this, heck hopefully it may even inspire someone to start getting in shape and changing their life. All the advice that I get from these forums are great and I want to thank all of you for any contributions you may have, most have more of an impact on my life and motivation then you will ever believe!

Excellent back story and definately motivational.

It seems like a lot of us have certain things in common, namely parents and loved ones stricken with diabetes and heart disease. My grandmother, mom, and uncle all have type2 diabetes. My grandmother has had both heart and vision problems from it.

My mom is keeping her's under control with diet. I talk to her and my dad about nutrition all the time.

I'm 35 years old and only started training 3 years ago. Seems like you've found a passion for self discovery and improvement and you are using bodybuilding as your medium.

The next step for me is to apply its lessons to life.

Either way, training hard and intelligently with great nutrition is damn fun.

Believe it or not Josh, I've been there and know the feeling. I think what really keeps me motivated every day I go into the gym is never forgetting where I came from or where I started...because I never want to go back. If the reason WHY you are doing something is strong enough, nothing...not even life...will get in your way. Stick with it my man, we're right here behind you.

The story of the wolf. Coming from nothing, to running a pack as a leader, chasing down the nobelist of prey and backing down from no type of fear.

The wolf endures, the wolf doesn't merely survive, it prevails as a species.

You sir are a wolf. An animal whom partols his territory with great pride and leadership. To see where you came from really is motvational, where as many of us have come from a path similar to yours.

This story you have, kinda pumps me up to maybe do something similar. I got your back here man, and I know the wolf will do nothing but prevail.

I feel there is a great deal of us from the same situations and thats what drives us to stand behind one another and support each other the way we do.
