The thing about the Highland Games is that you really have to train with the equipment. There isn't a routine you could do at a normal gym that would apply to the Highland games as specifically as you'd like. HG competitors train like strongmen/olympic athletes. To train the caber you pretty much need a caber, to train the throwing weights it's good to have a weight similar to the weights used in competition. So assuming you'll be a heavyweight you'll need a 56lb steel ball or block attatched to a metal ring by a short chain, throwing other implements will feel different and not carryover as much if they don't have a chain. The hamerthrow is something anybody can train so long as they have a two good size hammers, 16 and 22 are the light and heavy hammers I believe so just get a 16 and 22 sledge hammer and you can train it. Everything else is pretty much strongman oriented.
Basically, gain weight, build your entire back and hips and your explosivity for the throwing events.
I know this isn't a routine but it's what I was told by some seasoned competitors when I asked for a basic training routine.
