Roman Chair Squat apparatus = poor night of sleep

Since I train at home and have limited space I do not have the luxury of a power rack. For legs, I've been doing front squats, sissy squats, leg extensions, leg curls, lunges, SLDL's and calf work. I wanted more so I purchased a roman chair squat apparatus from ebay express. (If you look for it, type in sissy squat machine since that is how it is listed.) Gotta love those old 'forgotten' exercises.

I used it for the first time last week and did three sets of 8 with just body weight. I continued with the rest of the leg training and then threw in two sets of 12 at the end of the workout. Soreness was pretty minor the next day and was completely gone by the following day.

I kicked it up a major notch yesterday and did 8 sets of 8 with just bodyweight. The first five sets were not too bad...the last three were filled with plenty of burning in the quads! Continued with the rest of leg training and was glad to finish.

I had a difficult time staying asleep because turning over onto my stomach caused my quads to yell at me when they touched the mattress. I love it!! I haven't had this depth of soreness in months and while one isn't supposed to train for DOMS, it is nice to know I finally did something to put a hurtin' on the legs. Yahoo!!

Cool! I've never seen anything like that before. One problem I see with the chair in Hibi's article is that if you go to failure, you get a knob where the sun don't shine.

LOL -- there's no knob in the way. It's further back. That photo does make it appear like you would bump into something.

Mine looks like this:

A basic power rack really doesn't take up that much space. Without the lat tower option, most basic racks only have about a 4'x4' footprint. And of course you can store your barbell/weights in/on the rack and stick the bench inside it.

Hey Diane, I saw that article on the 'net awhile back and it is what inspired me to go looking for the apparatus in the first place. Chantal has great legs! The TDS brand unit is exactly the one I have too. I like its compact size and boy does it do a number on the legs (sytennison you're safe from knobs...hehe).

jude-o, I have future plans for a power rack. You're right, it doesn't take up much space. To fit one in means I have to do some re-arranging and perhaps have a yard sale. And I do want the lat tower option!
