Weekend fun report - for Misstransformer
Well I'm sure it was due to your well wishes MissT!
My son and I raced both days at the local motocross track. I came up a bit short on one of those pesky doubles in the practice on Saturday morning. I should have known as I was approaching the double tentatively thinking "shoot, it's cold and I'm cold and I'm tired and............". Well, I didn't get on the gas hard enough and came off the approach too slow. My front tire hit the face of the landing (the worst thing you can do on a double is come up short) and I almost cartwheeled the bike. Somehow I managed to save it and didn't crash. My shoulder did hit my handlebars and I snapped the crud out of my neck. That was IT I was fully awake then and committed to clearing the stupid jumps!
I finished my practice laps feeling good, other than a sore neck! I was also happy that Friday I had scheduled a Monday morning chiropractor appt!!!
So I ran my two moto's taking 2nd in the 1st one and 1st in the 2nd one (the leader slid out and I got by her). Brought home a 1st place plaque!
Sunday, some of the really fast girls showed up. They are good kids (half my age) so it's always fun to have them show up to smoke on me. Sunday's practice was much better and I was actually riding better but took 4th in both moto's - I used to beat those girls, now they are really FAST!!! The gal at the gate did warn me that they had been out there practicing every day the track was open lately. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Now, my son is committed to making me into a champion motocrosser. He told me he's going to have me clearing ALL the jumps and hauling booty through all the corners so I can beat those girls. I think it's because he knows that if I'm out there practicing, he'll be out there practicing.
If I could ride like him I'd be winning but even as fast as he is, he still only comes in top 5 of his class - scary to think of just how fast the top guys are!
So how was everyone else's weekend?

Well, since you're asking it really wasn't very active at all, not like yours was. We got to hang out with my brother and his almost-fiancee on Friday night, which was very nice, and then on Saturday I puttered around the house while my husband worked on his landscaping project in our back yard. On Sunday afternoon after religious services, I took a nap and then made my husband watch the movie version of Daphne DuMaurier's classic novel "Rebecca" with me (the one that starred Diana Rigg and Emilia Fox)... So it really was a lazy weekend... Every once in a while, you need one of those; I know it did me a world of good!

Your weekend sounds great, bbbom! Keeps making me feel sorry I didn't get that bike liscence this year...
My weekend was a complete opposite! Since all my days and weekends are usually hectic, I stayed home, walked the dog, did cardio, weightlifted and watched all of BBC "Blue Planet" documentaries (SICK how good they are!!).. Man I'm a GEEK!

A relaxing weekend is what I'm hoping for soon! It's been quite sometime since I've had a couple days to just putter around the house and watch a whole movie, much less an entire documentary series!
I think this weekend may actually be one of those though! Yaaaaaa!
You'll have time to get that license TF! I didn't even start riding until I was 34 years old and I have a lot more years to ride - you can do that when you lift and stay healthy.

Hehe yeah, I plan to keep the lifting and staying healthy part! I read an article about an aged soccer player who claims fitness lifestyle is an "elixir of youth", and I totally agree... seems to me that at least 80% of problems people encounter as they age are the results of looong years of laziness and sedentary life, not just long years of LIFE itself...
As for weekends, yeah, they do get hectic at times, this "calm one" was a wonderful exception... So how was your weekend, Miss T? Who knows, maybe you have better ideas than we do, we can snatch©..!

Shhhh, I'm old so I need a warmup lap or two!
Yeah, the kid is great support. The very first time I raced MX was 3 years ago and in my first moto, I came over one of the jumps (both wheels firmly on the ground mind you) and saw my son and about 15 other boys his age all cheering me on and showing me the "twist the throttle" signal. Made me go faster - a little!
TurbulentFluid, I have to agree that for many, lack of fitness and attention to diet cause most of their problems.

Oh yea...just seeing that "look" in their eyes is amazing. It can make you push harder than you normally would. Not to mention, you are teaching your son so much by example. Very cool. T

I agree. I'm not a big "fan" of this youth-glorification fashion trend that came out as of late... maybe because I live in a slightly "backwards" country where only 20-30 years ago, age was strongly connected to wisdom and experience... I take pride when my mother (who's totally unfit at the moment, 164 cm/74 kg) passes me like a deer on cross-country skis, while I'm trying my best to muscle myself out of the deep snow... She used to be a cross-country skier and, although unfit, has great technique. It angers me that she feels "braked down" by her age; it took me ages to convince her to come to the gym with me because "old women don't GO to the gym, what will the PEOPLE say!?". Thankfully I convinced her to go to a gym where no one knows her, and now she's making GREAT progress!

That's fantastic! I agree, age is just a number, unless you let it dictate your life.
When I was racing at Washougal this summer, they post a list with all the riders in your class - name, bike #, age, city, etc. I noticed that I was the oldest one in the Women's C class and thought "hey cool!"
So at the starting line, I was chatting with the girl next to me and she said "I'm getting too old for this." I just laughed and said "What are you like 35 or something?" "Yeah, how'd you know?" "Just a guess but I've got almost 10 years on you and my bike is probably older than some of the girls on this line."
She laughed and said "you know, you are right."
Very few people know how old I am because I refuse to accept that it matters and I have fun being immature!

Congratulations to your mom!! It's NEVER too late!! For instance, Kelly Nelson began training in her 50's, and still trains in her 70's and competes.

Also, 87 year old female bodybuilder, Marjorie Newlin, didn't start weight training until 72 years of age, and is still going strong.
Read her story here:

You can get better with age, but it IS a choice. Miss T
