Basketball Players Strength

I know basketball players aren't the strongest athletes but I would think they were pretty strong and lifted weights a lot. At the NBA workouts they do physical tests - one of which is benching 185 lbs. Here is what ESPN says how some did:

"Joey Graham won the strength test, bench pressing 185 pounds an impressive 26 times. Ike Diogu finished second with 21 reps, followed by Chuck Hayes with 20. Channing Frye helped himself shed the soft label a bit by hoisting the bar 19 times. Eric Williams, Marcin Gortat and David Simon all finished tied for fifth with 18 reps.

As happens every year, several top players were unable or barely able to do this drill. Monta Ellis, Rudy Fernandez, Martynas Andriuskevicius, Brandon Rush and Daryl Dorsey got a zero for the drill. Luke Schensher and Travis Diener could only lift the bar once."

I these guys have long arms, but they are the best of the best basketball players in the world (that arent yet in the NBA) and although some being skinny, the majority I'm sure weigh over 200 lbs. Seems strange that they cant do more.

The 26 times is impressive - but then he does weigh 225.

Anyone else surprised with this?

Not very surprising. Although most of them are over 200 lbs they're also 6' 7"+. What year is this info from? I don't recognize any of those names.

mmmm, this year? go google the names.

i'm not too surprised. if you look at some of the pro players today... it's obvious that muscle size isn't everything. the first player that comes to mind is tayshaun prince from the pistons. the guy looks like he's an anorexic pow.
