What's your take on salsa
I just added this to my diet, I was wondering if there is a certain amount I should stay with....With the exception to my 1st meal (egg white omlette)
My next 4 meals consist of 5 oz chicken breast 1/2 cup of veggies
pretty boring, but it's worked ! I've lost 20ibs in 6 weeks...
Salsa taste so freakin good!!! any suggestions...........amount wise ?
or can I just smother it......

i eat it daily, just check to see that the ingredients are ok. I dont see any problem with it, other than some people might say high in sodium

I eat at least a cup of the stuff daily and have had great success, so it cant be that bad Its my ketchup substitute, and now I even put it on my salad instead of dressing!

The salsa I use sometimes is just a couple of mashed up vegetables, vinegar and salt mixed together. Nothing wrong with that.

I eat salsa and baked chips (handful)
Salsa also tastes pretty good when you do this....
1- low carb- wheat tortilla soft shell
1- chicken breast
1 c. fat free chedder
and lots of salsa
Boil chicken and shred when finished.
put tortilla on plate and put chicken on top.
Put chedder cheese on top and salsa. Fold tortilla
and put cheese and salsa on very top as well.Put in microwave for a minute or two to heat everything else up.

I eat it quite frequently. It is also very easy to make yourself. Simply chop up some fresh tomatoes (roma tomatoes are great for salsa), a little onion, some jalapeno peppers, cilantro and add a squeeze or lime or lemon juice. You can also add some black beans or corn or other vegetables. If you make it yourself from all fresh vegetables, you control what goes into it and can adjust the amounts of the ingredients to suit your own taste.
Also, try substituting fresh ripe mango for the tomatoes from time to time. Mango salsa is great.

salsa is a great addition to ones diet. especially if its the organic variety... if its not the organic variety look for a no salt added or low sodium version. The one flaw I find with alot of the salsa's are that they are loaded with added salts which contribute to the high sodium levels.

Salsa is very good. They have carb free versions in the grocery store under "Goya." I loke topping it on my chicken breast and brown rice.

Good point. It's hard to find low sodium or no salt added in a regular grocery store. Also, they are on the chip isle, and I can't go down that isle and control myself so I just avoid it.

Whenever I go out to a Mexican Restaurant. I ask for an extra salsa or pico de gaillo(sp?) for myself to just eat plain with no chips.

I've always heard that it raises your blood pressure. Check out this site for a brief description.

I posted this a while back on another thread:
When your body has an excess of sodium, it retains water to dilute the excess sodium down to an acceptable concentration. This increases you blood volume and, consequently, increases your blood pressure. You are moving more volume through the same size pipe (even though your blood vessels are flexible, there is a limit to how far their walls with stretch).

Some salsa also has a bit more sugar in it than normal. Just keep an eye out for it.
I use salsa a lot too. Cube my chicken, throw it in my brown rice and throw salsa on top... mix it together and it tastes great.

Men's Health (don't laugh) recently had an article where they pitted a lot of popular condiments against each other to see which one turned out to be the healthiest for you. I can't remember what all of the other ones were, but they were all of the most common ones (ketchup, mayo, mustard etc) At any rate, in terms of being the healthiest, best tasting etc etc, salsa won it

Thanks for the info, prior to discovering salsa, I was using (Wishbone parmesan peppercorn ranch with 2 grams of fat ) I was using only 2 tbsp
per meal......4 x meals 5oz chicken 1/2 veggies and some mixed salad...
So I'am replacing this with salsa.....
But looking @ this dressing sodium is 270 mg, carbs 7g, sugars, 2g
and this reflects 2tbsp
Here are the specs for the salsa: Pace, sodium 240 mg, carbs 2g sugars 2g,
and this reflects 2tbsp
what do yall think is a better choice, or is there a better salsa out there ?

to top off the benefits of good taste and low carbs salsa is a great source of nutrients, especially prostate-friendly (big plus for all men) lycopene, moreso if you fire-roast or cook the tomatoes somehow first. home made is almost always best.
