Think about it. A lot of their music is still listened to by quite a few young people (and old people). Their music is used in movies, tv-shows, ads, etc. They did make quite a lot of good music.

The Beatles don't stand alone as their work (which for the most part is pretty good). They are also a sign of the changing times in society and music. I wrote a paper not too long ago explaining how all modern music is based on a timeline of Miles Davis to the Beatles to Kraftwerk. There are a lot of genres and milestones in between, but I boiled it down to these three. They paved the way for rap, hiphop, electronica, metal, rock, pop, etc.
