The Beatles don't stand alone as their work (which for the most part is pretty good). They are also a sign of the changing times in society and music. I wrote a paper not too long ago explaining how all modern music is based on a timeline of Miles Davis to the Beatles to Kraftwerk. There are a lot of genres and milestones in between, but I boiled it down to these three. They paved the way for rap, hiphop, electronica, metal, rock, pop, etc.
EDIT: Listen to "Why don't we do it in the Road?"Hate is a powerful word; I, in turn, am a powerful man, borne from it. Your fear is my strength, your insecurity, my pride. All i have ever known is loathing... You toss aside my teachings to preach of love, which you know nothing of?! I know love... Let me show you the way. Hate... Hate was my first love.
The demons are sleepless and immaterial, death is at hand, and I am weak. Lord, help me; do not let Thy creature perish, for Thou carest for me in my misery.

Gotta agree with thepapowski on this one. Maybe the Beatles aren't a person's cup of tea, but they are anything but overrated.
I own practically all of their albums and the more I listen to them the more apparent it becomes that they are in fact the greatest rock and roll band ever. It drives me crazy when people put bands like Zeppelin or the Stones on the same level as the Beatles, theres just no comparison.Blue jays/Spartans/Colts

10-15-2007, 07:28 PM #30"Modern man is conditioned to expect instant gratification but any success or triumph realized quickly, with only marginal effort is necessarily shallow. Meaningful achievement takes time, hard work, persistence, patience, proper intent and constant self-awareness. The path to such success is punctuated by failure, consolidation and renewed effort. Personal reconstruction is art." - MFT
