My arms ache SO MUCH. how do I get rid of the pain?

Ok, i finally trained my body after 5 weeks (was fasting for a month), and I think I over-did it.

Well I woke up with pain/lactic acid all built up in my arms, and can't stretch them out fully. And my triceps and biceps ache really bad. What can i do to get rid of the pain? Any food or exercises that can help?

Sounds like me the first time I ever lifted on my own. Did like 30 sets of biceps. The only thing that I could do to ease the pain was take a scalding hot shower. I just sat under the water for like 10 minutes and slowly stretched out my arms. Also pop a couple advil and that will reduce some swelling.

Also, try and always be wearing a jacket for the next couple days. Warm muscles heal a lot faster.

Some light stretching may help, at least temporarily.
Maybe some icy-hot patches will help?

Do 15 sets of 20 reps on curls. Make sure to go to failure on each one. That is essentially what i did and i was forced to keep my arms at a right angle for like a week.

Lactic acid does not remain in the muscles for hours or even days after strenuous exercise. The truth is that LA rapidly moves out of the muscles cells into the blood stream and LA levels in muscles return to normal values within 15-30 minutes.

The second myth is that LA is related to delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) that may devlop several hours or even days after particularly strenuous or unaccustomed exercise. It is not related because the LA has long ago disappeared. DOMS is likely to be caused by microscopic damage in muscle cells and by inflammation, not lactic acid residue.

Myth number three: Massage can rid the muscles of lactic acid. Wrong. Massage feels good and has been shown to have some therapeutic value. But LA is removed from the muscles by the circulatory system and from blood and fluid by the body's metabolic process. Again, the LA is long gone by the time you reach the massage table.

Myth number four: LA is the cause of fatigue. It is not the cause but it is one of the causes. In high-intensity exercise lasting 10-30 second, depletion of high-energy phosphates results in diminished performance. In longer-lasting aerobic exercise lasting 2-4 hours, muscle glycogen depletion causes the athlete to hit the wall.

Therefore, it's not due to lactic acid. Just sayin'.

Yeah but i never felt it. I did do around 8 sets of 15 rep once to failure and then contiuned with training partner and no luck. I felt the pain there and then but not next day. Funny thing is with everything else the pain comes next day.

I got that a couple of weeks ago. As well as adding extra weight to my 3x8 dumbbell curls, I also decided to add 3x8 hammer curls to work my forearms, with the same weight. How stupid am I?

Anyway, the pain will most likely be forearms/some bicep, which is why stretching them out is such a problem. My advice is to force them straight whilst lying down a few times for the next couple of days. It will be a bit painful, but it should get some movement back in them.

Btw, how good was the pump?

Thanks bro! Yeah, I miss the forums! Tons of work, school, etc. kept things at bay for a while. How are you doing? I'm glad that you, Bladen, Viper, etc. are still posting.

    1) Hot bath, not shower... Trying to raise body temperature.
    2) Light stretching
    3) massage muscles push towards your heart, trying to get lactic acid out
    4) stay in bath for 30 minutes continue to stretch

    5) have your girl give you head (note step 5 works for multiple ailments)

I have to disagree with number three. Only because the LA is removed by that point.

Step five has many therapeutic, psychological, and physical benefits. In fact, I implore you to *coughcough* receive step five whenever you can.

Got a few deep tissue masages a while ago, masseus (spelling?) said you want to push toxins towards the heart in order to help flush them out...

Anyone have any info regarding this?

Try Bladen's step 5. Works like a charm!

I've heard the same thing, actually (or similar) but I have a medical article that says otherwise. *checks clock* Got work! Gotta run! I'll definitely post the source. Later fellas!

I don't have any scientific evidence to back it up but sports massage has helped me on numerous occasions with speeding up recovery. It may not be moving lactic acid but it certainly is reducing blood pressure and improving circulation because of the fact that veins cannot move blood on their own.
