I always believed that fat was fat and muscle was muscle so doing cardio would only help you drop fat. I've seen a lot of people saying that you loose muscle by doing cardio or by swimming. Is that even possible? I run for my cardio... thats working my legs and i use 5lbs weights in each hand its not much but im confused. Can you or can you not loose muscle due to cardio?

To burn fat directly without touching the muscles, run lightly (but long distance) in the morning, before your breakfast so you're on an empty stomach. Your body will tap into fat stores instead of carbs/protein for energy.
Order of energy consumption: Carbs, if none then fats, if none then muscle (this is generally speaking)
I keep a moderate amount of cardio just to keep the heart going and for long distance bragging rights with still being good sized. For my freshmen year on the CC team, i had unusually bigger legs/bigger body for a cc runner but i was still good!boyscouT's Guide v2: Basic Nutrition

Well I dont know about you guys but i use the Max-Ot cardio and I have to say that for what its worth it really works (for me at least). It's basicly 16 minutes that it and your done. The trick is that your going ballz to the wall all 16 minutes. It makes sence though because running long distances will make your body store fat( just look at long distance runners, they are very long and thin with very little muscle and mainly fat). But sprinters are very muscular and cut. For me I do it 2 times a week and eat clean and I have lost fat and gained muscle....my 2c

I'll try to explain it.
Your body has something called "glycogen storages" which is your primary source of energy. Once they are depleted, your body will start looking for energy elsewhere, such as fat, and muscle. This is called "catabolism" and it's where your body releases enzymes breaking down tissue into food. One of these enzymes is "BC Oxoacid Dehydrogenase" (something like that, i'm not sure on the correct spelling at all). This enzyme breaks down the branched chain amino acid's in your muscle for fuel, thusly breaking down both muscle as well as fat.
