Protein Pancakes - Dissapointment
Over a dozen eggs later and a huge mess I am still hungry.
Um yeah my protein pancakes didn't turn out too good. What did I do wrong??
Mixed cup of dry oatmeal, 6 egg whites, protein power, blueberries, cinnamon and vanilla extract in blender.
Sprayed a olive oil, butter spay. Tried to cook like a regular pancake.
It ended up being runny and one big pancake. Once it bubbled, I could not flip it. It would start to fall apart. I waited a little longer, and it was burnt.
I made the mix again, and same result.
Pancakes aren't supposed to be this hard!
It ended up being pretty funny, besides the fact that I'm still hungry and now I have to clean it up.
The mix did smell good.

no egg yolks at all? i'd toss at least 1 for every 4 or 5 "egg whites"
99% of the time, its not the ingredients, its the methodology and how you prepare the meal...you can have everything in exact proportions, but completely botch the actual cooking process

Add more oats if its too runny. For fluffier pancakes-throw in big scoop of FF cottage cheese. Make sure your heat isnt too high..mine used to burn like that until I figured out the stove was the culprit.

The second time I used 2 egg yolks. The first time no at all. It didn't seem to help.

The one time I made protein pancakes I used half a cup of oats, half a cup of cc, and 3 egg whites. I put it in the blender, cooked it like a normal pancake [made two large pan-shaped ones], and I ate them with syrup. To me, they were exactly like normal pancakes!

Try cooking the oats with hot water first. It may be hard to flip with so much batter. I slide mine out of the skillet and onto a plate, put the skillet over the plate, then flip it over. Works well...

Try this:
.5 cup dry oatmeal
.5 cup cottage cheese
4 egg whites
pinch nutmeg
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 packet splenda
Blend everything except the oats and baking powder. Then, once you have a smoth liquid, add the oats and baking soda and blend until the oats are motsly processed (you don't to eliminate every bump).
If you're going to add blueberries, add them whole to the batter after you blend it -- if you blend with them in the batter there will be too much liquid.
Cook in a non-stick pan. Youll either get 2 large pancakes (about 7" in diameter) or a bunch of silver dollar sized ones.

Are you sure you are doing your measuring correctly....I make mine and never have a prob with them. My recipe is as follows and soooo easy. No blender here either...just a bowl and a nonstick pan and a large spatula:
3/4- 1 cup dry oats
6 egg whites
6 packets splenda
cinnimon to taste....I use quite a bit
sometimes nutmeg
mix all ingredience in a large bowl, spray pan with pam, pour mixture into pan cook each side for about 2-3 minutes on each side with the heat at medium

It's similar to some of the other recipes, but here's the recipe I use:
1/2 cup oatmeal (quick oats)
1/2 cup cottage cheese
1/2 cup egg whites (I think that's 4 whites)
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
1/4 tsp cinnamon
super easy to flip (esp. compared to 'regular' pancakes) and I haven't had a single one burn yet. I top them with warm berries and sometimes a bit of splenda. I love them and I find them VERY filling. The 'serving' as above is too much for me, but I guess it's about 450 cals + whatever is in the berries so that's not too surprising
Oh, and I put mine in a blender

This morning I tried dbflgirl's pancakes.....they are FABULOUS!!!!! I added 1/2 a banana and I thought they were so good that I made them again tonight. It probably isn't the best dinner...even though there really isn't anything bad in them. I don't eat the whole batch either.
Anyway they are great and I'm not even a fan of pancakes.

Can someone tell me would this mean ½Cup rolled or steel cut oats? If you were to use either, would you use the same amount?

I've only ever done it with rolled oats.
Steel cut might be too dense to absorb the liquids. If you try using these, let me know how it works...

these things eventually get old.. I used to go through the trouble of making this myself.. ate hundreds of these oatmeal pancakes (imagine a big dude with apron on slaving on the stove day after day making pancakes)....
It finally got tasteless and I was so glad! haha, i made a mess everytime and some days, I ate these things for all 6 of my meals

Mr. Aries, I am glad to hear that maybe *someday* I will get sick of these, because over the past 4-6 weeks, I have eaten these delicious things almost every evening. They're healthy and a great source of protein, but I am like a broken record when my husband asks me what I'm having for my evening meal: "um, cottage cheese pancakes...again..." Love 'em, love 'em...

My recipe:
6 egg whites
1/2 cup dry oats

Also, Vermon brand sugar free syrup is delicious and only 10 calories in 1/4 cup and 4g carbs 4 of which is sorbitol. Delicious!!!!!

I know alot of us out there faithfully use protein powder, I just don't do so good with it. But my hubby uses it all the time so I will try it with him.

I've always made mine with oats until recently. My trainer, IFBB pro, Julie Lohre, recommended this recipe. It actually has the consistency of real pancakes. My 2 yr old loves them.
1-2 scoops of protein powder
1/3 cup of reduced calorie Bisquick
2-3 egg whites
Pinch of cinnamon
Water to make the right pancake consistency
Mix it, fry it, eat it.
When I'm closer to competition, I'll switch back to oats, but she assures me that for now this is a healthy "treat" breakfast.
As for the low-cal Bisquick, I sometimes have trouble finding this, but I live in Podunk.

I made DBflgirl's recipe and loved them! I have turned my nose to them for about a year and on Wednesday decided to make them. My very picky 10 year old eater - whom LOOOOOVES pancakes - tried them- loved them asked for more - and even asked for them last night for dinner. I made some and threw them in the micro for breakfast the next morning - no syrup just spray butter and loved them to. I am excited to find these.

A little trouble-shooting maybe from the original post. I've noticed that different types of wheys, or proteins in general mix @ different consistencies.
Example:
My oats & GNC whey come out great. I cook the oats then add the powder and have to add some water bc it ends up too thick.
However the same oats and ON whey...Ihave to evercook the oats because once I add the powder, it seems to make the oatmeal runny. The opposite of what the other brand does! So maybe try different brands with that recipe.
I've also found that casein protein mixes thick as well.
