On the juice
A buddy and I have been having a friendly "get back in shape" competition, and so far I've been kicking his ass because I'm more motivated and intense.
Recently, he went to the doctor and found out he has a severe testosterone deficiency, so they put him on hormone replacement therapy. And now he's totally dialed in for working out on a regular schedule, and seeing fast gains. He's been told that he's on the "good stuff".
So what's that mean? He wins by default? Or should I ask him out to a bunch of restaurants and buy him dessert every time to slow him down?

The dosage that he will be on will not really give him an advantage unless your own levels are low. When Doctors prescribe HRT, it is to get you to a normal test level....not one over and above. So you should be fine.....buy him desert anyway!
Good luck in your contest!!!

That's for sure. The little 5-10 gram a day dose a Dr puts you on ain't gonna do much for developing a lot of muscle unless you're severely deficient to start with.
What Dr prescribes 'the good stuff' ?? Mine gets suspicious if I even try to refill my prescription more than once every 3 months.

Look at it this way. So far he has achieved the results he has gotten with low testosterone. So if that was a factor inhibiting growth (it isn't always) then raising T levels significantly is initially going to have a quite significant impact, even if he just keeps doing the same thing. Even if he is not just at a 'normal level'.
His gains will slow down and become 'normal' after a while (maybe a few months).
I know people who have gone on TRT and for some they also started to gain significant amount of muscle, while for others going on TRT didn't make that much difference to muscle gains. for whatever reason, low T levels weren't the limiting factor in them putting on muscle.
In one sense he is now just competing at the same level, although 'taking the brakes off' so to speak when you are competing for the most gains in a particular time is not really fair/appropriate. If you waited 6 months and then had a friendly competition the relative gains between you would probably be more comparable.
still, that's no excuse not to get started now. Good luck and keep up the motivation. Since you are doing better anyway, perhaps you just need to keep focused and you'll end up in better shape despite his rapid gains - that would be even better!
