    Olympic Lifters using wrist STRAPS??

Ive been watching alot of training videos from top Olympic Lifters, and it seems as though alot of them use wrist straps in training when doing cleans and especailly when performing the snatch. This seems counterproductive coming from an beginner.

    Thoughts?

lot of o-lifters use straps in the snatch to save their thumbs from the hook grip, it does cut you up if you go raw without tape, same can be said for the clean.

sraps do let you get used to pulling without the arms and keeping them straight, thus making sure you're getting the bar with your legs and back.

the o-lifts aren't necessarily test of grip strength but IMO they do require a strong grip but I feel rep work with straps won't hurt max effort singles work without them.

Olympic lifters generally use a hook grip when actually competing 'cause it allows you to hold more weight. But it hurts like crap with heavy weights. So I imagine they're trying to spare themselves the pain when it's not needed? Besides, I doubt most of them have a grip problem.

I love hook grip but I prefer to strap up for heavy pulls and hang work.

Hook grip becomes too painful for extended reps.

As long as ther are proper tailed straps and not figure 8s your grip is still being worked to an extenet, and it wont hurt max strength.
