    $12 walmart protein

i got some whey protein from walmart and it has 20 grams of protein per serving and it has 30 servings all for $12. Would this stuff really help me build any muscle since it is protein, or would it not since it's so cheap?

If it's whey then it's probably the same or similar stuff you'd buy at a nutrition store, but I have a feeling it's not so... if it's not whey it is good for you, but not optimized for body building (sorry I don't know all the details about it)

I hear the protein at wal-mart helps you grow a nice long mullet and it easily mixes with Keystone.

My suggestion is this. Buy Optimum brand 100% whey. It has 26g of protein per serving, and 77 servings in a container. You can pick it up from GNC for about $26, and about the same from bb.com. It tastes great, and mixes great with milk or water. It is also a quality product. It uses whey isolates over whey concentrates, but still combines both.

Chances are the quality if protein is absolute crap. Chances are the product doesn't even contain the amount of protein per serving it says it does. Go with ON Whey, someone else mentioned it as well. If your going to spend your money, spend it wisely.

Doesn't look horrendous. If it's this stuff or nothing then take this stuff. The other people in this thread are right though. There are much better proteins out there. I'm sure you know that as well. If this is the only thing you can afford, it's better than going without.

If I am not mistaken, the company that makes Body Fortress (Walmart whey) is the same company that makes the whey for Vitamin World and other reputable companies, so it should be fine.

I dont know if numbers magically change for you on your computer, but Optimum Nutritions 100% Whey protein per serving is 23grams, not 26. Second, the price is just under $29, not $26 for a 5lb tub. At GNC it's probably more.

But yes, Its a quality product and whey isolates are the dominant source of protein.

Body Fortress is Whey protein and the label confusion is probably coming from the fact that they recently upgraded their formula and have both labels still on the shelf. I have taken it before and it will get you by as long as you're not taking a ton of it. When I tried to up my protein intake and supplement it with this stuff I got pains in my uppr GI. Went back to the ON Pro Complex and no more problems since. Like they said before -if that's all you can get, go with it, but compared to other higher quality brands it's not really much cheaper, so go with the quality. Good luck!

That Wal-Mart protein is probably Body Fortress. 2lbs for $12. I've used it and thought it was a pretty good product. Not the best but certainly not the worst (in my opinion). My review is floating around here, search it.

1dayIwillbebig: You are right, it is 23 g per serving. But with your Gold Card at the GNC I go to it is around $26... But all that said it is an excellent product at an unbelievable price...

ON 100% whey is the ultimate protein powder, hence why it is the #1 seller on BB.com

Nathan: That sux that your GNC is over priced. I would still recommend the ON 100% Whey over almost any other. Mixability, taste, absolutely amazing.

As far as price goes you can still get the 5 lb tub off bb.com for $29 +S&H

Let me know if you have any other ???'s

It might be OK, but that is $60 for 10 lbs. You can get a 10 lb. ON 100% Whey here at BB.com for $55.59. I am guessing the shipping charges for BB.com and taxes at your local Wal-Mart will wash, so you might save a little money and you get known good quality by shopping here in the future. I take the meal replacement type stuff consisting of either myoplex Deluxe or ON Pro Complex. The nice thing about this stuff is that they taste ok and they blend well.....a few shakes with water and your good to chug. They contain quality protien and provide many of the vitamines you need.....and which are probably absorbed much better this way too. I think protien supplementation may help a lot at this point.....particularly before and after workout..... maybe at night an hour before bedtime too. Some people eat a bit of fruit with it to increase enzimes....I like to combine a bit of whey with a small amount of another mixed protien blend because I think the protien works better that way... In example, I might combine a small or half scoup of the walmart brand with my regular portion of pure whey from optimum or ON.

    Good Luck
