Most people who work out nowadays drink Gatorade or Red Bull while they are in the gym. Both of these drinks are branded as ''energy drinks'', however the only reason why they are energy drinks is that they contain sugar (carbs). that's especially true for Gatorade, Red Bull does have some caffeine at least. But so does Coca Cola. So what do you think of Coke as a fitness and energy drink?

Unless you're 5 year olds and are jumping off the walls after drinking a can of coke, it won't do anything. People who drink Gatorade during workouts don't drink it for energy, they drink it to keep themselves hydrated. And everyday I feel like telling them that drinking water > Gatorade, but of course that would be rude of me to say.
About the Red Bull, I think it's fine preworkout if you keep it sugar-free.

red bull / gatorade are 2 different categories first of all
gatorade is a sports drink designed to replenish electrolytes
red bull is more of a caffine to help stimulate ur brain and keep u up longer with energy
and a coke.. they are just pointless.. they dehydrate you.. full of HFCS.. and not very healthy fro the body in general
to say a coke would give u loads of energy is crap
i agree.. whole food reigns superior over drinks like this anyday.. how about having a half cup of oats instead or a nice apple or other piece of fruit like a banana
a much better altnerative IMO

lol visit his website, he's one of those crazy PHDs that believes in every stupid skeptic theory ever(or just acts like he does to sell products)
edit: wikipedia: The typical types of HFCS are: HFCS 90 (most commonly used in baked goods) which is approximately 90% fructose and 10% glucose; HFCS 55 (most commonly used in soft drinks) which is approximately 55% fructose and 45% glucose; and HFCS 42 (most commonly used in sports drinks) which is approximately 42% fructose and 58% glucose.
edit#2: that makes hfcs55 pretty similar to HoneyLast edited by Sibrek; 10-09-2007 at 01:03 PM.

Wow, I just learned something then. I mean, sure, they're all somewhat man-made, but even though all of them are bad news in large quantities, 90 is the one that could really do some damage, but if it's in baked goods, it's only in small, insignificant quantities anyway. A sports drink with a 42/58 fructose/glucose ratio probably wouldn't be the worst thing for some quick refueling after high intensity exercise. ::waits for the flaming to come::

Eh I stopped drinking gatorade/powerade and all that stuff after I found out that it's not really that great to begin with and there are way better alternatives. For me I take 2-3 teaspoons of Virgin Coconut oil, then just pop some NUUN into my water bottle and there you go. You've got your "energy" pre-workout from the coconut oil, and you've got your electrolyte drink from NUUN. NUUN doesn't have any calories though, but it definitely keeps you hydrated. Some people may need the carbs, but imo carb loaded drinks take longer to absorb than with something like NUUN. Soda is just empty calories, and unless you're really sensitive to caffeine I don't see it giving you an energy boost either.
