    bi's w/o forearm

Hi, guys. My forearm's been sore for the last week or two, so I want to give it a rest. Are there any biceps exercises that don't involve the wrist flexors? (Specifically, no. 4 in the diagram at http://www.exrx.net/Muscles/WristFlexors.html , if it makes a difference.) Curls seem to be out of the question, at the moment; the problem started with EZ bar curls. Your advice is appreciated!

i'm sorry to say this but you have to take a break from lifting...don't lift a weight or else you may aggrevate the injury even more and you'll have to give up lifting for longer. I got the same problem the only problem with forearms is that every time you pick up a weight your forearms are being using to hold it. Rest in and hopefullly in a week or two the pain will go away and then go crazy.

But if it is because of a specific exercise then change the excersise... the exercise most likely to cause pain there is your trusted bb curl ... try switching to db's.

    Hey Mike,
Sorry to hear your forearm is giving you some trouble. Never like to see this happen to one of our 5/7 Club members. If it's giving you that much pain, it might be worth getting your doc to check it out and make sure there's nothing serious going on. You may have just strained it, but sometimes a damaged ligament or something similar can be the culprit that's causing you the pain. Better to know what you're dealing with up front so you can take appropriate action (even if it's not necessarily whatever action your doctor may push on you). Good luck and get better soon!

Drags: Oooh, not lift! That is sooooo not what I wanted to hear... I guess this will be leg machines week... unfortunately, my legs don't need the work: my arms do, and I guess that's why I'm in the situation I'm in.

Jag, the problem doesn't feel bad enough to see a doctor, but I will if it doesn't go away after giving it a rest for a while.

My experience with doctors usually goes like this: "Doctor, it hurts when I do this." "Well, don't do that!" And when I ask what the problem is, the doctor says, "I dunno!" (This is after sitting in the waiting room for two hours: I get a 5 minute consultation.) Luckily I don't need to go to the doctor very often.

The only good advice I've had from a doctor in the last 20 years was to start getting some exercise. I am enjoying weight training a lot.

Find a good Sports Medicine doc instead of your GP and see how much you learn from him in comparison. At any rate, it definitely sounds like taking a break on your arms is a wise choice for the time being. If it isn't better after a week of rest, get in to the doc.

    Exclamation

Try ice or heat when you're sitting in front of the boob tube to see wht helps. I have issues every once in a while and icing the offending part make it settle it's ass right back down. Go easy on the lifting for a few days and see if the ice and rest helps you.

    Thumbs down

I had the same problem a while ago, and consequently the cause was also the same "EZ Curl bar".......I simply switched to the DB curls and have not had the problem since. I throw in the BB curls pretty heavy here and there just to mix it up a lil, and still no prob. The pain was a searing pain up the flexors, especially upon releasing the bar... the next day would also hurt too.

Let it rest for a week or so and try to replace the EZ for different DB movements.
