bench press !!!!!%$%$%!!!!!!
I was wondering if anyone here does bench press without locking out??? I have seen videos of ronnie colman and other bodybuilders doing bench and it looks like they dont lock out at the end of each rep. Is this more affective for increasing bench?

quick word to the wise: most of us aren't nearly at ronnie's level, or supplementing at his level; it should follow that trying to train like him probably isn't the best idea, and in fact may be quite dangerous and harmful to your own lifting career. seriously, think of how much stuff he puts into his body, and how highly adaptive his muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments are to stress...all i'm sayin' is that if you ain't a pro, you probably shouldn't attempt training like one.

Normally this is correct.
However, I do the same thing with all my presses, I stop just short of lock out. It will keep constant tension on your muscle (more effective for BB than powerlifting, really) and will help save your elbows

I thin it incorporates more of the muscle fibers the way he does it.

OP: You don't have to lock out if you don't want to. If you don't, you could possibly benefit from more TUT (time under tension) during your BP. I don't see the point in locking out unless you need a rest or something.
I would say someone correct me if I'm wrong....but there is no right or wrong here...

I get a better tricep work out when I don't lock out since it keeps constant tension on the muscle. I would recommend not locking out, but it isn't going to hurt you if you do.

What are you goals? Lockout strength is pretty important for certain things.

I wanna get my bench up higher. I have hit 275 x1 but normally only get 225 x4 without a spotter. Higher bench will result in more size too.

You don't want to lockout like that most of the time.

strength gains do not always equate to muscle gain, you should know that.

do NOT lock out your arms..stop the rep RIGHT before you lock out. this keeps your trice[s in flexon and releases pressure from the weight on your elbows

When I started benching, I locked out. When I stopped locking out, my chest exploded. Guess which way I bench now?

If you want a bit bench, you need to lockout, because if you don't lock out, it won't count as a complete rep. If you want size, then there's really no need to. And if your elbows hurt from locking out then don't

Bodybuilding is basically trial and error, if you want to find out, try it out and if it doesent work, you can go back to locking.

ronnie does that to keep constant tension on his chest. But his triceps don't really help too much then

Where you go all the way to the top of your rep. Where your elbows are locked straight up, and not bent at all. Get it?

I think Not locking out and pumping will be better for muscle gains but locking out better for strength?
